Last year, Melissa asked me if I'd be interested in doing CD interviews as a semi-regular feature during WKAR's local breaks from NPR's Morning Edition... I agreed and have done (as of today) four of them. I rarely feel prepared for these, regardless how acquainted I might be with the music before I enter the studio. However, Melissa has a knack for taking the conversation into directions that manage to pull fairly cogent and coherent thoughts from my skull.
Then she edits them out and makes me sound like a dope!
Hah!
Just kidding... I usually walk out of these sessions wondering why she asked me to do them in the first place, as I never quite feel I've articulated anything that might encourage someone to pick up the CD we've just discussed. When I hear the show, however, I marvel at Melissa's ability to cobble something radio-worthy from it all.
Today, she told me her secret... the station has a digital intelligence-enhancing filter.
