This was taken on a lazy winter's day at the beach with two of my favourite internetfriends, Kelsey & Sian. It was our first time meeting and I think they thought I was a bit nuts when I dropped my SLR almost into the surf (well, okay, tide - there wasn't really much surf as such..) to get this shot. There were a few more, but they were fairly crappy.

This is my old memory board I've kept since my teen years. It's been through many changes, but I only recently (within the past year or so) started taking photos of it.

It hangs above my computer :) It probably won't change much from this, but I'm anticipating starting a second one with stuff regarding my daughter and my first year as a mom.

I like my memory board because it's a place for all the little things I don't know what to do with, but that I enjoy looking at. :)

Today, using addresses given to me by friends on the internet, I prepared and mailed tiny packages to London, Seattle, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Carolina Beach, Herts, Cambria, Dumfries, Burlington, Urbana, Roanoke, Phoenix, and Manhattan. A fine spread, beautiful evidence of the far reaching influence of modern communication.

I sat in a puddle of white envelopes at the park, addressing them, tipping ingredients into one, and then into another, slipping cards into each, slipping in cards, rose petals, and my smile, wishing I had through to bring more tiny plastic dinosaurs. The sky was almost like summer today, except too pale, as if seen through a film of soap.

Curious pedestrians would stop and ask what I was doing, wanted to know if this was a business I had, sending interesting letters to strangers. I told them this was far too bare bones, that I was too poor to be anything but kind in a nostalgic way. "People have trusted me, wouldn't you want to reward such behavior?" This seemed to satisfy as, once I said that, they would gently walk away, glad to have asked, but not interested enough to stay.

& 2007 Internet surfer coincidence meet-up

Some wonderful friends from Alberta sent me a little care package at work the other day. Inside was a weeded library book from 1975 on "Women in the CBC", a few postcards and this lovely stand up reversible frame with type written quotes by John Lennon and Aretha Franklin. (The next photo shows the frame on my desk)

Old library books!

Type written!

Postcards!

Quotes!

If only these two knew how perfectly they hit the nail on the head. These are all my favorite things. Made me feel special and I was smiling all day.

New additions to my desk montage, wheat Elevator magnets and 'You're optimism is killing me' card courtesy of an Edmontonian friends.

Today I met Don and Jan for the first time. Don and I made contact via a French language (for learners) website back in 1999. He and his wife Jan live in Sydney. Don and I never got around to practising French by email as initially planned because we got caught up with 'chatting' about things for which our French was inadequate. We've kept in touch over the years through occasional email and then Flickr. I was introduced to Jan and also to their daughter Caitlin, with whom I keep in touch via Flickr, Twitter and Facebook (I love the internet!). I met Caitlin and her husband four years ago when they came to the Isle of Wight to see a Terry Pratchett play I was appearing in.

We found a kind person to take a few photos of the three of us today (poor man was handed three cameras) and Don proclaimed it an historic event. We have, after all, known each other for 11 years, but have only just met.

We spent a lovely relaxed afternoon together and the sun put in an appearance too. Perfect.

Riana Lagarde of "These days in French life" sent me a wonderful care package which I blogged about HERE.

Seriously, don't leave me alone with nothing to do except test my new lens

Rather representative of the weekend, really

Care package #6 Code named: Tour De Force

I love the design of this card. It now occupies the space right above my monitor to remind me to get up. While I won't leave forever - it's a nice reminder to leave work at work.

Some driving tunes in celebration of getting my learner's permit!

I have the coolest friends.
