Not much offends me. Maybe it's my generation or maybe its the culture I was raised in with the internet. Whatever the case, I'm so sick of seeing those "share this image to stop cancer posts". Listen I fucking hate cancer. But sharing an image of a dog or a soldier isn't going to save the world, and that's too fucking bad. But if you share this image you might win the lottery without having played this weeks lottery. I'm just saying.

When we returned from our adventure to Raja Ampat aboard the phinisi sailing schooner Ombak Putih, I pitched the Garuda Airlines people to do a story on Alfred Wallace and our recreation of parts of his travels. They agreed and I asked Dr. Tony Whitten, who was the cruise expert, to write the story. Here is the result of our efforts.

The internet has lots of definitions of "yearling" deers. I'm not sure if this one officially qualifies. From personal knowledge, I would guess it is about a year old. Still foraging with the mother.

From the Internet......

And this is yet another invasive species!!

NOT an obvious problem here... Not many to be seen....and beautiful in the eyes of many of us!

"Yellow iris, or yellow flag iris, is a perennial aquatic plant native to Europe, western Asia and North Africa. It was first introduced to North Americain the 1800s as an ornamental plant for ponds and water gardens. The plant has since spread to many waterways, including those in parts of southern Ontario. In addition to its use in gardens, it has been planted in wastewater ponds because it is known to absorb heavy metals.

Yellow iris can grow in both treed and open wetlands, along river and lake edges, and on floodplains. The plant spreads by seeds and by underground stems known as rhizomes that send out new shoots above the ground and roots below. Stands of yellow iris develop thick mats of rhizomes that can connect several hundred plants. Fragments of rhizomes that break off can also form new plants.

Range

The first recorded Canadian sighting of yellow iris was in Newfoundland in 1911. It was found in Ontario in 1940. Today it grows in most Canadian provinces, including parts of southern Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, the east coast of Prince Edward Island and the west coast of British Columbia. It is also found in many American states, and in temperate areas worldwide. Several American states ban it or list it as a noxious weed."

From Communicating on the Internet by Art Wolinsky, 1999

I saw you on the Internet,

I'd really love to meet you.

Your legs are long and sexy, pet,

I'd really love to meet you.

I'm 5 foot 6, my eyes are blue,

I'd really love to meet you.

I've got 8 inches cut for you,

I'd really love to meet you.

I'm married but I am lookin',

I'd really love to meet you.

I'm tired of home cookin',

I'd really love to meet you.

I've never had a girl like you,

I'd really love to meet you.

I'm always up for something new,

I'd really love to meet you.

I'm sorry, so sorry,

It seems my trip got cancelled, dear.

I'm sorry, so sorry,

I can't be seen in public there.

I'm sorry, so sorry,

My dad just had a heart attack.

I'm sorry, so sorry,

My wife just said she'd take me back.

I saw you on the Internet..

Last week I went to an open house event at the Internet Archive in San Francisco. They chose the date 2015-10-21, the day when Marty McFly and Doc Brown arrived in the future.

This boy was fascinated by a so called earthquake detector, a brass plumb bob hanging from the ceiling of the hall.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure. The grain is from the high ISO 3200. I did not reduce the noise on purpose to give the image this grainy texture.
