Happy International tiger day! A wild Bengal tiger taken in Ranthambhore National Park. This young tiger and two of its siblings were sitting in and next to the road. The neat thing was that we had this sighting all to ourselves thanks to our driver and guides.

A mother tigress and her cub walk away into the jungles of India. We saw this mama tiger and her three cubs one early morning. It was difficult getting of picture of them as they crossed the road and walked into the Indian jungle. We did see them again later that day and had the sighting all to ourselves :-).

PETER (Gives Benny a kiss on the cheek)

BENNY:

What are you doing....?

I have a toothache!

PETER:

I kiss the sore spot so it hurts less.

I also brought 1 chocolate heart because today is a special day and on special days you can eat something sweet. That's good for the teeth. More sweets are bad.

BENNY:

And what kind of special day is it today?

PETER:

International Kindness Day. Today I am extra nice to you Benny!

What do you want to eat?

What do you want to drink?

Shall I rub your paws with olive oil? That makes them soft.

I also want to massage your neck.

Want to have a blanket to keep warm?

Shall I wash your back?

I'm going now...

BENNY:

Peter....Peter....Listen to me. I love you very much and want to thank you for everything you want to do for me. But .... I'd rather be alone

PETER:

(Disappointed)

Oh..oh..oh..ok Benny

Celebrating Cheetahs today on this #intlcheetahday. With only around 7000 remaining, the Cheetah population is struggling and listed as vulnerable by the IUCN. Human encroachment continues to shrink and fragment their native habitat. During my time in Ndutu I was encouraged that we found several thriving families. Cheetah mortality is high during the first year of its life and this cub was the sole survivor from what was likely a litter of three to five. Find out more about cheetahs and how you can help from the Cheetah Conservation Fund cheetah.org/.

Its International Cat Day and Miss Catanas decided tonight is treat night.

January 31 is International Zebra Day! Celebrate by sharing some fun facts about zebras with your friends and family.

A zebra’s stripe patterns are unique to each individual, just like a human fingerprint.

Animal experts believe the disorienting pattern of the stripes deter biting flies from zeroing in on zebras. Flies navigate by perceiving the light reflecting off of surfaces, and they prefer to land on solid dark surfaces. They will typically avoid zebras altogether.

Even at birth, a foal’s legs are already almost as long as those of an adult. Within 20 minutes of birth, the zebra is on the run and uses this amazing ability as its primary method to evade predators.

The hind legs of zebra can deliver powerful kicks to break the jaw of a predator, like a lion, and they can even run at top speeds of almost 40 miles per hour.

This lovely herd of Plains zebra (Equus quagga), was photographed during a photography safari on a late evening game drive in a downpour around Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya.

It's International Cat Day today and I have always thought Milu has something international about her with her Latvian name and her Parisian style. Even though she is 15 years old, had most of her teeth removed a few months ago and has to take daily medication for thyroid issues, she is still our sweet glamour puss

A Slovak flatbed, Polish and Czech coaches, and a German carriage for oversize loads. That all in one special train, headed by SM31-021.

Every now and then there is a train heading out from Wrocław. On its hook is a power generator (they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes), which is headed for the harbour of Gdynia for further shipment abroad. The train takes the least used routes to not interfere with standard train traffic. The last part of the route usually leads via Czersk, Kościerzyna and Somonino (on the old coal mainline).

However, yesterday the train was routed differently. After a night spent in Chojnice, it set out in the early morning towards Czersk, and then further down the old Ostbahn towards Starogard Gdański, where it was to spend the night between 07.12 and 08.12.2024.

I was very happy to catch a train here because usually nothing really interesting uses the Ostbahn between Czersk and Tczew, and there are a few interesting spots to make use of here.

The pictured train was running as 553000 from Czersk to Pszczółki. In Pszczółki it will most likely wait until the coming night to make the last stretch to Gdynia. Here it is seen in very humid conditions, as it was arriving at Kaliska, to wait for an upcoming regional train from the other direction.

I must say that I'm personally extremely happy with this picture, must be one of my personal favorites of the last few months.
