A Belgian-style home decorated by Kay Douglass. She used an antique door as the headboard, a trick she often employs to add interest while taking up less space in the room.

Ivy-patterned pillowcases are custom-made from Galbraith & Paul fabric. The pair of Earl chairs are from South of Market, Douglass’s Atlanta antiques store. (You can find the chairs online, too -- they're by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.)

The magazine says the walls are painted Seapearl, by Benjamin Moore, but this must be an error, as a commenter pointed out below.

This bold and glamorous room was painted in a deep lilac with black trim and lots of sparkle and glitz. (Cue "Purple Rain" here) I had the ceiling bumped out to accommodate some theater-style drapes that highlighted the chandelier and bed. Two clear Louis Ghost chairs sit by the window- carefully NOT blocking the great view of the neighborhood!

London designer Harriet Maxwell Macdonald devised this sun-filled turret to lighten a row of fitted cabinets lacquered in deep maroon (hidden from view in this photo). Faint-green walls (William Morris's Loam) soften the contrast, while natural linen shades with a lavender print pick up the heather tones of the nearby living room and hall.

In Trey Laird's Hamptons library, Jeffrey Bilhuber covered the walls with chocolate wallpaper from Maya Romanoff. Bilhuber's Bridgewater sofa is upholstered with a Création Baumann linen-cotton. Photo from Elle Decor, July/August 2007.

Designer Suzanne Kasler: "This is a gorgeous peony pink, with a bit of raspberry in it. That undertone is what keeps it from looking sickeningly sweet. It's a happy, cheerful color that makes everyone look younger. Even the house!"

"Entertaining is what Palm Beach is all about," says designer Gary McBournie. Everything white, including a sideboard from Lars Bolander and vintage Chinese Chippendale chairs, makes a crisp contrast to custom-glazed duck-egg-blue walls. Though new, the Dennis & Leen chandelier was found in a Palm Beach antiques shop: "It was probably too large for someone's house. But here, it fills that void at the center of the room and gives it character."

I'm pretty much obsessed with gray paint, and am always hunting for ways to use it without the whole room going industrial and icky. This is a great example of gray done well. It's the hallway of Phoebe and James Howard’s Atlanta apartment—she decorated it; he designed the architecture and interior layout. The walls are painted Blue Hubbard by Sherwin-Williams.

Steven Gambrel, you can decorate my bedroom any time! He designed the trim Glover bed and 1940s-style club chair; custom linens from Schweitzer Linen. Bedside tables are Paul McCobb mahogany side tables from Elan; the Stiffel lamps are from Laurin Copen. The 1930s French Art Deco side table by the window is from Karl Kemp; on it are vintage scientific cage lights. The photo over the bed is by Marine Hugonnier. Manderly Square carpet from Beauvais.

Here's what Gambrel says about the master bedroom (which is in a Long Island home):

"The owners wanted it to be a little more luxurious, so it has wall-to-wall carpeting. We have clean, contemporary furniture and some tailored custom pieces, such as the bed, which is very fitted. That seascape over the bed has a quiet spirit, and it helps keep things soft and airy. After all, you're upstairs, and it's less about earth, more about sky."

The living room of interior designer Frank Roop’s Boston duplex, located in a remodeled 1865 brownstone. Roop designed the living room’s chaise lounges and mother-of-pearl cocktail table; vintage ceramic vases are displayed atop a 1950s étagère, the stools are Napoléon III, and the painting is by Bernd Haussmann.

The rock based coffee table is amazing as well.

I can go on and on.

I love this room, particularly the mix of neutral colors, pattern, and scale. The ceiling is painted a glossy chartreuse. And check out that awesome fleur-de-lys print on the French settee!
