Bruselas, la capital de Bélgica y de la región de Flandes, es un excelente punto de partida para realizar una ruta por Flandes.
De todos es conocido que Bruselas alberga la sede del Parlamento y Comisión europeos, así como la de la OTAN y grandes empresas internacionales. A pesar de este hecho, que parece marcar tanto la imagen en la ciudad, Bruselas y su 1,1 millón de habitantes conservan su ambiente provinciano, antiguos barrios populares y una rica vida cultural. Si hay algo que caracteriza a esta ciudad es su talante cosmopolita y variado, no sólo en cuanto a las gentes, sino también a sus edificios, calles, locales, visitantes... Bruselas es una mezcla, y de ahí la forma coloquial de llamar a sus habitantes, "zinneke", palabra que designa a un perro callejero, cuyo origen es una mezcla de razas. Por decirlo de alguna manera, Bruselas es un Forum de culturas permanente.
