The Emperor penguin nicknamed "Happy feet" that appeared on the beach at Kapiti Coast this week. As I learned today, these penguins source water from the ice of Antarctica, and also use it to cool themselves. The penguin believed the sand on the beach would do the same thing as the ice, so it ingested a bunch of it. This procedure aimed to flush as much sand as possible from the penguin's throat and stomach - and yes, they did remove quite a bit.
Wellington Zoo staff highlighted the visibility of spinal and hip bones, indicating the penguin has sunk below its normal body weight. It currently weighs in at 23 kgs. They hoped the procedure would be successful so they could begin to hydrate and feed the bird. What happens after that seems to be anyone's guess, but it appears clear that it won't be headed back to Antarctica.

The first intercoms used at White Sands Proving Ground were Langevin units, high-level, high-output (90 volts) intercoms for open-wire lines and field wire, needed to send signals a long distance (for instance, from main post to Rhodes Canyon). It also operated over circuits that had been broken by vehicle mishaps or missile impact.
Around 1955, the Langevin was replaced by the Dukane intercoms. These units were installed at most range locations and were equipped with headsets or hand mikes.
With electrifying music and more than 180.000 visitors, the fifth edition of the “Electric Love Festival” that took place at the Salzburg-Ring was a huge success! On location, we took care of the communication with mobile radios, headsets, Artist-Intercom and MediorNet.

Woningspecificaties
De entree van het complex huisvest de brievenbussen en is verder afgesloten. Bezoek dient zich daardoor eerst te melden via een intercom. Hierdoor staat er nooit onaangekondigd bezoek voor je deur, wat een fijn gevoel geeft. Via de ruime ontvangsthal kom je bij de lift die je naar de vierde etage brengt. Boodschappen hoef je zo nooit de trap op te sjouwen. Er is overigens wel een trappenhuis aanwezig. Wat je direct opvalt zodra je nummer 946 binnenstapt is het vrije uitzicht en de heerlijke lichtinval in de woning.
Het appartement heeft een entree die leidt naar de keuken en lichte woonkamer. Via de woonkamer bereik je ook het balkon waar je ’s ochtends heerlijk in de zon kan ontbijten en ’s avonds nog tot laat kan genieten met je vrienden op de zwoele zomeravonden. Rechts naast de entree vind je ook de compleet uitgeruste badkamer met ligbad, wastafelmeubel, toilet en wasmachine aansluiting.
In de woonkamer zijn twee scheidingswanden aangebracht, wat deze studio tot een 2-kamerappartement maakt. In de slaapkamer is een extra raam met panelen aangebracht, wat zorgt voor lichtinval in de slaapkamer. Ook zit er een vaste kastenwand in de slaapkamer waar je al je kleding in kwijt kunt.
Het complex heeft een actieve Vereniging van Eigenaren; de maandelijkse servicekosten bedragen € 157,06 en dat is inclusief gas, opstalverzekering en een voorschot op de verwarmingskosten en het watergebruik. Het teveel betaalde ontvang je jaarlijks terug.
Het openbaar vervoer is uitstekend geregeld in de wijk Vollenhove, zo zit er een bushalte om de hoek. Tien minuten later ben je al in Utrecht en na een kwartier bereik je het Centraal Station. Ook met de auto ben je binnen enkele minuten op de snelwegen A28 en A27 en bereik je iedere gewenste bestemming op een directe manier. De omgeving van de woning voorziet ruim in parkeergelegenheid.
Omgevingsinformatie
Een van de eerste buitenplaatsen van de Stichtse Lustwarande was het landgoed Vollenhoven in De Bilt. Op een deel van dit uitgestrekte landgoed verrees in Zeist tussen 1956 en 1970 de buurt Vollenhove met als doel het huisvesten van arbeiders om het bestaande woningtekort te verkleinen. Het gehele project droeg de naam “Bouwproject-Parkplan Vollenhove” en omvatte de bouw van een kleine 2400 woningen in de landelijk groene omgeving tussen De Bilt en Zeist-Noord.
Dat groen in deze wijk vind je ook nu nog terug in de fraaie omliggende bossen waar je heerlijk kunt wandelen. Lopend kun je verder ook je dagelijkse boodschappen doen, want het winkelcentrum met supermarkt, drogist en diverse andere winkels ligt naast de deur. Ook fietsen is een geweldige belevenis in Zeist en omgeving: er zijn veel goede fietspaden aangelegd en alles is in principe per tweewieler te bereiken. Ook het centrum van Utrecht is prima te befietsen vanaf Vollenhove; binnen twintig minuten kun je al heerlijk genieten van een koud drankje aan de Oude Gracht.. Eenmaal weer thuis vind je fiets een prima onderkomen in de berging in de onderbouw van de flat.
