In addition to the signing of a renewed partnership between Intel and UCD, 15 students from Science and Engineering disciplines were awarded today with UCD-Intel Masters Student Scholarships. Intel has been pushing hard into the IoT (Internet of Things) space over the past couple of years. It makes sense. A company that sells chips, and a movement whose demand currently outstrips supply.
Their previous Maker board the Galileo left me unimpressed. The Edison however has a new, smaller form-factor, wireless and BTLE on board. Interestingly enough, it runs at 1.7 volts, but you can level shift it up. More on that with the starter kit overview.

This is the Intel Edison next to a Sacagawea dollar. Hard to believe the performance and connectivity packed into this tiny form-factor. When they were showing it off at CES, they were showing an SD card form-factor. This clearly is not that, but it is not far off. I wonder if using the SD dimensions would have caused legal problems with Electric Imp?
