I know there is a raging debate on this topic. I fall on both sides. Do you change the image to make the image all it can be, or do you represent what was actually there when you shot it?
Normally I tend to allow myself some latitude for manipulation. When I shot this, the core of the Milky Way was behind the church. I did not realize that until I got home. I could have put in a sky from another image, but maybe because this was a church, I felt like I better just leave it as it was.
This is my first Milky Way of the season. While I was shooting this I was struck by the fact that every YouTube video that tries to teach landscape photography gets the first and most important rule wrong. The most important thing to know in landscape photography? Tuck in your shirt when its cold! Seriously, that wind tunnel up your shirt will freeze you out and make you run for the car seeking warmth. If you are not comfortable shooting, you probably won't shoot long. The same goes for standing in streams, or the surf, or anything else. It was below freezing when I shot this, and I was bundled.
This is the Locust Grove Church in Oregon. The last service here was held in 1914. This was shot with low level lighting, which I actually think was silly because i used a Move-Shoot-Move star tracker. So why shoot with low light? Not sure, force of habit I guess. I should also note that I did not enter the church in any way. That light inside was shot through the window behind the other side of the church with my light on a tripod, sitting in the dirt. Beyond the no-trespassing signs, I also have a huge degree of respect for places like this.

The last days of a once fine round crib near Lostant,IL. When I was in 6th grade I played in an elementary school basketball tournament-I bet this crib looked a lot better those 45 years ago.I'm getting old! LOL
This is still a nice old round crib,built a little different than most.I'll post a pic of the complete structure later...
A twofer at the Split Rock Lighthouse yielded the Philip R Clarke and American Integrity gliding through the icy cold waters of Lake Superior, which was evidently warmer than the surrounding air tempature.
Well worth the frozen toes and feet!

I'm a big fan of the Carquinez Bridges and have shot them from many different angles.
Somehow I got the idea that it would be cool to find a center point looking through the triangular supports from Crockett. The ideal alignment is a little lower than this and is most likely through someone's window. That being said this best alignment I could find from the street....

Sunset, Saranac Lake, Adirondacks, NY.
How many evenings have I waited through, watching my exposure drop with each passing minute. Sunset has no integrity. What may have been spectacular last night, with the same type of day as today, wonât necessarily happen again. Clouds are always a help, but not an absolute. Sometimes there's a glow that just keeps intensifying, with a perfectly clear sky. Then there are days with the right combination of cloud cover proportionate to sky and horizon to light the world on fire. If conditions look right, expectations rise. But there is no honesty. I have been set up so many times with what looked like perfection, only to see it fizzle at the last. Too often, the sky can go neutral in an instant, the clouds turning white to gray without a hint that color ever even existed. It's not exactly lying. It is more like someone pretending to be one thing, and not being who you thought she was at all. You wonder, when she's holding out that promise, what pleasure she takes in deserting you, in being unfaithful. On this night, though, she has my back. As the ridgelines become erotic silhouettes, I ache at the colors of desire thrown up--the heat of the yellows, the warmth of the oranges, the passion of the pinks. And sadden at how quickly they fade into that vault of ice above. After so many disappointments, I shake my head at how easily I am seduced by the fulfillment. I've learned not to trust anything, except that there will be a sunrise, and there will be a sunset, even if there is nothing to be seen. Sunset has no integrity, but I do. I keep returning, every time it callsâ¦for the lust of it, I guess. But tomorrow, I will be in a different place, with a different feeling in my heart. And maybe Iâll find a sunset that doesnât fade to blue.

This is the second part of my Bubble-series. I wanted to illustrate a feeling of integrity. This woman stands in the middle of the forest. She has her own space where no one can enter. I use the bubble to illustrate integrity. The red fabric is both dramatic and a strong colour. I wanted the fabric to be some kind of armour around the woman. A red armour that arises if anyone comes to close. Have you found your own space in this world, and are you able to preserve it?
This is also my entry for Brooke Shadens competition with the theme Motion. I got the idea for this shoot before the competition started, but as I thoght about the red fabric flowing in the air I felt it would fit into the theme very well!
I feel I want to give credit to Karrah Kobus and Brooke Shaden for inspiring me when editing this photograph. Even before I joined flickr I had the idea of this bubble, but it is the inspiration from these wonderful photographers that has helped me to visualise what I had in my mind for almost three years. Both Karrah and Brooke uses colours in an amazing way!
