The defensive structure that was already present when the town was founded by the Romans was integrated over time with towers and bastions. The Rocchetta (small castle) built by Egidio Albornoz in the 14th century is still visible, together with the Rocca (castle) of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta that was added in 1450.

The current structure of the monument is due to Giovanni della Rovere, Prince of Senigallia, and son-in-law of Federico III da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino. It was the Duke Federico who offered Giovanni the best architects of the time: Luciano Laurana and Baccio Pontelli. The works started in 1478 with the purpose of adapting the castle to the new defensive needs. In 1503 the Rocca was conquered by Cesare Borgia, the author of the famous massacre carried out in Senigallia and described by Niccolò Machiavelli.

Rocca Roveresca is a unique monument because it was not only a fortress, but also a noble palace, and the seat of an artillery academy founded by Guidubaldo della Rovere in 1533. After the extinction of the ducal dynasty, when the town returned under the domain of the Church in 1631, the castle was used as a papal prison and an orphanage.

Today it hosts art exhibitions and prestigious cultural events.

Although Colombo, the de facto capital of Sri Lanka, is provincial compared to Bangkok, Singapore or Delhi, there are always interesting architectural gems to be found. The red lines on this rather low-rise commercial building are reminiscent of conductor tracks. They contrast well with the blue glass. I chose a nearby inconspicuous tower block as the background.

The stone sculptures in Sno, a small village in the Kazbegi region of Georgia, are part of a remarkable art project in the Caucasus. These sculptures consist of impressive stone artworks depicting giant faces, often with a melancholic or mysterious expression. They were created by local artist Merab Piranishvili, who is renowned for his unique ability to bring faces and emotions to life in natural stone. Working primarily with local stones, he carves expressive facial features that tell stories about life, the soul, and the deep connection with nature. The sculptures symbolize the ancient wisdom of the mountain dwellers and the spirit of the past. The faces sometimes appear sad or contemplative, reflecting both the challenges and the beauty of life in the Caucasus. Fully integrated into the surrounding landscape, the sculptures stand among the mountains, hills, and rugged grasslands, blending seamlessly with their natural environment. This is what makes Piranishvili’s work so unique: he respects the natural shapes of the stones and subtly adds human characteristics without compromising their raw, natural beauty. Piranishvili often works directly in the field, selecting local stones and carving them with a hammer and chisel. He carefully considers the natural form of each stone, adapting his designs to create a result that looks organic and harmonizes with the surrounding environment.

Sno is located near the breathtaking Stepantsminda area and the imposing Mount Kazbegi. The stone sculptures are a hidden gem in this region, attracting an increasing number of art enthusiasts and travelers. The site exudes a serene, almost meditative atmosphere—perfect for those seeking something unique off the beaten path. If you ever find yourself near Kazbegi, these sculptures are well worth a visit. They offer a truly unique experience where art and nature come together in perfect harmony.

Oceanic and Elle with Me.

Namtso is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet and significant for Tibetan Buddhists. Kora is a Tibetan word that means "circumambulation" or "revolution". Kora is both a type of pilgrimage and a type of meditative practice in the Tibetan Buddhism. Thus, Namtso Kora means pilgrimage walk around the Lake Namtso.

Namtso literally means heavenly lake in Tibetan language. Located around 240km northwest of Lhasa, capital of Tibet, it takes four hours’ driving from Lhasa. Extending 70 km from east to west and 30 km from south to north, the lake covers an area of 1,920 sq km and has an altitude of 4748 m above sea level. It is biggest lake in Tibet and the second biggest salt lake in China as well as one of the highest lakes in the world. The water in the lake is crystally clear and blue. The blue sky joins the surface of the lake in the distance, creating an integrated, scenic vista.

In every Tibetan year of sheep, thousands of Tibetan Buddhism believers will come here to worship this sacred lake. As a rule, they will walk clockwise along the Namtso Lake in order to receive the blessing of the gods.

There are several fine Tibet treks around the lake. The shortest one is roughly 4 kilometers and takes less than one hour. It starts from the accommodation area to a hermit’s cave hidden behind a large spinter of rock. The kora continues to a rocky promontory of cairns and prayer flags. At the promontory, pilgrims undertake a ritural washing in the lake. And then the trail continues past several caves and a prostration point where there are two rock towers looking like two hands. Pilgrims squeeze into the deep slices of the nearby cliff face as a means of sin detection or drink water dripping from cave roofs, even swallow holy dirt.

When you enter the church of the Grand Séminaire, an impression of grandeur and serenity is imposed. The neoclassical style of the exterior façade, with its majestic columns and clean lines, gives no hint of the decorative richness that can be found inside. The traditional basilica plan, with a wide and bright central nave, invites contemplation. Above, the barrel vault seems to rise to infinity, creating an airy atmosphere, conducive to meditation.

The choir, adorned with Corinthian columns, exudes Baroque splendor with its gilded details, richly decorated side altars and statues of saints watching in silence. This harmony between neoclassical architecture and Baroque elements gives the church a timeless beauty, which only asks to be rediscovered.

But beyond the architecture, a musical treasure lies in the shadows: the monumental organ designed by Arnold Clerinx, a famous Belgian organ builder. Between 1854 and 1856, this master craftsman created an exceptional instrument, in collaboration with the sculptor Herman and the architect Delsaux, who designed a gallery and a case that were magnificently integrated into the church’s decor.

However, this organ has a long history. Before it, another instrument had been rebuilt around 1760, from older elements dating from the 17th century. Over time, the stops were modernized, and in 1885, the organ builders Pereboom & Leyser restored it, adding in particular a Harmonic Flute, a Human Voice and a Celestial Voice. This organ is a real time machine, witness to the evolution of tastes and techniques.

However, despite its rich sound and its heritage importance, the organ has fallen into oblivion. Very little used today, it is patiently waiting to be brought back to life under the expert hands of the Liège organ builder Hadrien Paulus.

This is one shot that would have been difficult or near impossible to get my previous camera, the fact that the Z8 has a integrated focus stacking features means that I can just shoot a composition knowing that the camera will take care of going through the focusing range without my intervention. Which means that it will be much easier to stack in post production. this is a composition I shot last year where I couldn’t actually blend the images together . #Waterfall #Nature #Watercourse #Tree #Plant #Stream #FlowingWater #Flowing #switzerland #switzerland_bestpix #forest_captures #scoutinglocations #visit_switzerland #nikon #z8 #24120mmf4#Tree #Tranquility #TranquilScene #Stream #Nature #Green #Outdoors #Autumn #ScenicsNature

Quick sketch of a sunny building in Wayland. I was trying to apply some of what I have learnt in Liz Steel's Buildings course, especially the lesson about mapping light and dark. There were great shadows on the right side of the building and I was a little confused by it, because it was a cast shadow from the nearby tree, but because of the distance it looked more like shade.

While I was drawing and looking, I noticed the somewhat surprising window decoration of the flower shop (none, blinds drawn). Also, I wondered what kind of integrated solutions were offered next door and why the right window of "Built By Beads" would show objects, that looked like trophies. I didn't have time to investigate, but will do so at the next opportunity.

We shot this image over the course of a week during April 2018. This image was a real challenge in our light polluted skies (Bortle 5-6) an hour west of Bangkok.

Sharpless 73 (also known as LBN 105), in the constellation Hercules, was mistakenly added to the Sharpless catalog as an emission nebula. It was later realized that because there is no nearby hot star to ionize the gas, it is merely a molecular cloud in space. Lit by the integrated light from the galaxy, it is classified as an integrated flux nebula.

Integrated flux nebulae are very faint, in fact there is no listing for the surface brightness of this object. Picking the nebula out of sky noise (e.g. light pollution at our site) is especially difficult, and was only possible by taking a huge number of exposures using our wide field 300mm f/3.0 telescope array. The nebula was visible for about 3-1/2 hours each of the eight nights we shot. 465 Luminance (5-, 8- and 10-minutes), 174 Red, 172 Green and 173 Blue (all color 2-1/2 minutes Bin2x) subexposures were taken using one FLI ML29052 and two FLI PL16803 CCD cameras cooled to -25C. More than 70 hours of data was collected. The image was processed in PixInsight and Photoshop.

Shot and processed by the SC Observatory Team: Mike Selby, Stefan Schmidt and Andy Chatman.

After capturing Starlink Satellite Group transit over a 4 minute period: www.flickr.com/photos/cloud_spirit/53387373498, I wondered what if I fixed on the stars and not the horizon.

By using PixInsight, I stacked all 138-1 sec exposures by aligning the brightest stars and not rejecting any pixels. The result is certainly interesting. The earth's movement is seen by the blurry houses and trees. I also imaged several more satellites (presumably also Starlink).

Vega is the brightest star just above the center right edge. Spherical abbreviation (taken at f/2.8) is more apparent on the right side of this image.

This was shot during my second visit to Clevedon. A beautiful pier that I planed to photograph for a long time. On my first visit I was very limited in time, so couldn't even set-up my tripod. Finally, I was able to get there on Easter break with plenty of time. Everything was just fine: lovely weather, nice clouds and high tide.

I processed the background of the M81/M82 image again to show the faint dust of the “Integrated Flux Nebula”. This is a cloud of dust, carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas that lies just outside our galaxy and is lit from below as it were by the light of the whole Milky Way galaxy. It’s extremely faint and this particular patch was first discovered as recently as 2004.

In total there are 9 known IFN clouds and they tend to lie along the galactic N and S poles. This one is the best known because of its relation to the two galaxies.

Perhaps in the distant past, our Milky Way galaxy also had jets of hydrogen shooting out along its polar axes and the IFN clouds are just a remnant of that.

The reflection of our galaxy is lighting up the dust.
