It's that time of year again when I whine about having a car insurance renewal date of 25th December!
I got my renewal notice from Hastings and to my surprise (not really) the price has gone up again this year, and not by a tenner. From £635 up to £750. Ouchie.
Off to the price comparison websites and time to watch the numbers tumbling. I got a good looking offer of £550 and then just decided to give Direct Line a go. I don't usually bother as they've been mega expensive for years but they came in at £427...waaaaay below.
I don't love them as a company but I can't ignore a three hundred quid saving. The infuriating thing was that out of courtesy I gave Hastings the chance to match it. The first go on the phone call went to £750 to £640. Then to £550. Then to £475.
Given that they could knock £275 off their price because I'd bothered to pick up the phone I think I'd not renew on general principle.
Still, all sorted now. :)
