I saw it, I tried to dodge it, but it got me anyway. Ping pong sized rock....bounced like a rubber ball.....65mph up I-95.....at least, it didn't hit the paint.
Ditched!
The rusting remains of a burnt out car. In a muddy ditch along the A272 near Tillington, West Sussex.
Technology arrives in the world of the insurance claim. One small bump in a car park, and a few photos later the repair is approved.
Most of it would polish out, and a bit of coloured tape makes the rear light legal, but the bent and cracked plastic bumper means a trip to the body shop. And that means an insurance claim.
This abstract is made up of just two photos, the rear light, and my reflection whilst photographing the VIN , buried under the wipers and windscreen.

Thats gotta hurt !!!
This is how a poor Jauguar XF-S was left after a tractor trailer became unhitched as it was making its way down Danbury hill near Chelmsford in Essex earlier today - amazingly the driver (who was unhurt) of the Jaguar saw what was going to happen and managed to swerve onto the pavement preventing a full head-on collision.

Steps at New Ross commissioned by Colfer, Solicitors is a fairly straightforward code for there is a claim on the way against some person, entity or insurance company! It is supported by a few other images giving a better view of what is behind that wall. I knew a solicitor named Colfer in Dublin and a decent man he was too!

This is a shot of my beloved Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM wide angle lens.
I bought it in January of this year and it is the most favourite of my lenses and is the one lens that is always in my bag when I go out.
Unfortunately yesterday whilst on an URBEX trip with Steve K - my tripod with camera and the above lens toppled over and the lens is no more.
I turned round and can only describe what I saw as a slow motion sequence where the tripod was falling away from me and I was unable to get to it in time before it hit the floor.
The lens hood met the ground first and smashed into the three peices as seen above and the front of the lens hit the ground almost square on - amazingly neither the filter or the glass of the lens suffered even a scratch - about a third of the metal flange (in-front of the gold ring has gone and both the AF and manual focusng are totally kaput - the zoom still works however as can bee seen in the shot the focus it stuck beyond infinity..........
A call to the household insurance people will be made tomorrow...........
I have checked over the camera and it appears to have suffered no damage whatsoever - quality kit them Nikons !!

When they're thinking especially hard about your case, they take their glasses off. I never want to see any of those "AVAILABLE" plastic-wraps covering those two up, alright?
When you need to keep burglars out of your office, you had maybe ought to think of Dusty Rose as a color for the grilles you put over your doors, like Asberom & Brown do.

The recent showery weather has produced a bumper crop of snails at Bentos Towers. The other evening I observed a particularly handsome specimen making a stately, ship-like progress across the lid of one of my Council wheelie-bins. It was the brown one, for compostable waste. Worth a photo, I thought. I decided to go for a telephoto shot at fairly close quarters ...good for blurring the background.
I went indoors to fetch the kit. Well, as all Flickrites will know, when you are intent on the image in your viewfinder you become oblivious to what's going on around you and ...as I told the girl on the Claims Hotline the next morning... I failed to notice that I was standing against a bicycle which was propped against one of the other wheelie bins. As I leaned closer to my subject the bin shifted and the bicycle toppled. The camera strap had looped itself around the saddle and the camera was snatched out of my hands by the bicycle's descent. The camera was undamaged, but the lens, fully "zoomed out" and vulnerable to lateral shock, was immovably jammed. I'd bought the camera, with its two "kit" lenses, less than three months ago.
I still have an identical lens which came with my previous camera, a near relative of the one I dropped. However, I have undertaken to sell it to someone. Mrs B also has the same lens on her camera and I can borrow that for the time being but ...well, it's nice to have your own. I wondered whether I might be able to claim on the house contents insurance. Surely it was to guard against eventualities of this sort that you bought insurance? The sing-song, breezy tones of the girl on the other end of the phone soon changed as she looked up my policy and began sifting the small print for grounds upon which to disclaim liability. Actually, I'd seen replacement lenses on eBay for as little as £65, but for as much as £239 at WarehouseExpress.com. It had crossed my mind that if I claimed for a sum towards the upper end of the price range I could then buy a better lens than the one I'd broken ...perhaps the rather nice all-purpose 18-180mm zoom. Crook to crook, we each tried to out-manoeuvre the other. The insurance company, of course, had the upper hand and refused to cough up on the pettifogging grounds that, for insurance purposes, the garden was not included within the boundaries of the property.
Bastards. Well, we won't be renewing with them, will we? I immediately went into petulant self-justifying mode. I'd only once before made a claim on my house contents insurance, in about 1985 for a bathtub damaged during renovation work on my first house. Actually I'd have been happy to live with the two faint traces of cement dropped from the trowel of a careless builder, but the first Mrs B and her mother egged me on and I didn't want to look a wimp. The thousands I've spent insuring my belongings over a quarter of a century have been money down the drain. Insurance is essentially a racket. What's the worst that can happen? If some bottom-of-the-heap types break into your house they're only interested in your wide-screen TV and would walk past a Turner if you happened to have one on the wall.
Incidentally, these "kit" lenses aren't terribly well constructed, are they? Mine didn't break open like this when it fell; I pulled it apart later to see what was inside. Apart from the hunks of glass there is nothing more to them than a couple of plastic tubes and a spring. It's only a slightly more sophisticated and better machined version of a kid's toy telescope.

One of the most common injuries caused by auto collisions is referred to as “whiplash.” Whiplash can actually refer to a variety of injuries to the soft tissue of the neck, including sprains or strains of various ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Over the past decades, many people have stopped taking whiplash seriously due to the cliched image of a car accident victim in a neck brace on the witness stand. In reality, however, whiplash can cause serious and long-lasting problems in a car accident victim’s life.
EFFECTS OF WHIPLASH
Like any other neck or back injury, whiplash can be debilitating and can significantly restrict movement of the head, neck, and shoulders. The following are only a few examples of the effects that whiplash
Pain and suffering – Whiplash can cause almost constant pain in some sufferers, which can increase whenever they move their heads. This pain often requires prescription pain medication for someone to even get through the day, which can significantly alter their state of mind. Ongoing pain can also result in depression and other mood disorders.
Inability to work – If a whiplash patient has a job that requires lifting or other physical activity, they may not be able to perform their job duties for an extended period of time. In addition, painkillers can impede a person’s ability to work. Missing work can result in lost wages and financial difficulties.
Limitations at home – If you have small children, whiplash can often prevent you from lifting them up or caring for them. In addition, whiplash can keep you from doing regular household chores or everyday activities, and may even make personal grooming challenging and painful.
COSTS OF TREATING WHIPLASH
In addition to the limitations on your life, whiplash can also be costly financially. Many whiplash victims require visits to the doctor, to orthopedic specialists, to physical therapists, and/or chiropractors. It may take months of ongoing treatment before the pain subsides and you regain your full mobility. These medical bills add up quickly and cause financial strain.

Welcome to California where sudden branch drop is not uncommon. Trees go into "moisture conservation mode" in our long dry season and sometimes large lateral branches get too heavy. We're as likely to see this sort of thing in summer as in winter storms. Worms (and pedestrians and cars) need to keep an eye on what's happening above them! HWEVS!
