OurDailyChallenge "Writing or Drawing Instrument"

This is the instrument that I use to draw funds against (Make drawings) my account. An Automated Banking Machine, a different type of tool or instrument. Perhaps not exactly what was intended for this challenge, but for some reason this popped into my mind today.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden, right, looks through a magnifying instrument at a sample during a tour of NASA's Planetary Protection Laboratory as Kennedy Space Center Director Robert Cabana looks on, Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. Samples such as this, are used to analyze planetary protection technologies for cleaning and sterilizing spacecraft like the mars rover Curiosity. The primary strategy is to prevent the transportation of Earth organisms to Mars to be sure that the hardware intended to reach the planet is clean. Photo Credit: (NASA/Paul E. Alers)

These are my three favorite musical instruments at the moment: My Fender American Standard Stratocaster; my Goodall concert jumbo acoustic guitar, and my Remo djembe.

I also play saxophones, but not as often, so they didn't make the cut for "three" :)

Taken for the Take a Class with Dave & Dave group assigment for the topic "three".

Handheld the camera; handheld the flash on an extension cord to bounce off the ceiling from the left.

I'm not particularly happy with how this turned out, but it was the best of the bunch, and I've got to go with this entry. But it did give me ideas about what to do with these guitars next :)

What does it take to create self-aware robotic instruments out of a piece of paper? A workshop was only the start of a new type of avant-garde robotic origami music performances.

Oribotics, a combination of origami and robotics, offers fascinating possibilities – from tiny biomedical devices to the giant James Webb Space Telescope. Together with a team of researchers, key researcher and artist Matthew Gardiner has been developing Oribotics since 2010 at the Ars Electronica Futurelab. With oribotic instruments, the team found a playful way to give robotic origami a musical expression: In a workshop, participants were able to create the paper-based instruments themselves. The potential of the avant-garde instruments was showcased during the festivities for the Ars Electronica Futurelab’s 25th anniversary.

Musical Instrument Project

Dominic had a project for physics that required him to build a musical instrument from scratch. He decided to make maracas. This was a project in which he didn’t put a lot of effort, but the end result did meet the requirements. We asked him to resign from his job at Burger King and in talking with his psychiatrist, we decided to change his antidepressant. Hopefully this will help him find a little joy in his life again.

Sarangi. The instrument which is said to most closely resemble the human voice. A very difficult instrument to play, its popularity has declined, and its role as an accompaniment to a solo vocalist is frequently given over to the more easily mastered, though infinitely less subtle, harmonium, a 19th century European import. Unusually, notes are not produced by pressing a string with the finger, as in a violin, but by running the base of the fingernail/cuticle up and down the side of the string. Sarangi players end up with very strangely shaped nails!
