Wing Commander Robert Bob Foster born Clapham, London May 14th 1920 He worked for Shell and BP after leaving school and joined the RAFVR on May 1st 1939. After completing his training he was sent to Sutton Bridge to convert on to Hurricanes. On July 6th 1940 he was posted to 605 Squadron at Drem but on September 27th whilst in a fight with Bf110s his Hurricane was damaged and he had to crash land at Gatwick. He went on to claim a Bf109 destroyed on the 7th October a share in a Ju88 on the 8th a probable Bf109 destroyed on the 15th and another Bf109 damaged on the 8th November. After the Battle of Britain he was posted to 55 OTU at Usworth as an instructor and then to 54 Squadron on the 14th April 1942. The Squadron was then posted overseas to Australia and on January 17th 1943 moved to Night Cliff, Darwin. Between March and July 1943 he shot down four Mitsubishi Bettys and probably destroyed two others and was awarded the DFC on 13th August 1943. He returned to the UK in in February 1944 and was posted to Fighter Command HQ in October. He stayed with the RAF until release in 1947.

Of note is that one of Bob's Hurricanes, R4118 that he flew during the Battle of Britain is airworthy today (2017) after initial restoration by Peter Vatcher. see www.hurricanedisplay.co.uk for more details. Peter then sold the aircraft to Hurricane Heritage who base it at Old Warden (2017.

ESA spacewalk instructor Hervé Stevenin gets his equipment ready. He carried NASA replicas of sampling tools used during Apollo missions on the Moon. ESA is assessing if the tools are suitable for future exploration missions.

Pangaea-X is a test campaign that brings together geology, high-tech survey equipment and space exploration. For five days in November 2017, the course mobilised 50 people, four space agencies and 18 organisations in five different locations.
