When I took this photo and others, I was still sitting on a bench on the school grounds.
What I didn't know was that I was under video surveillance.
After 12 minutes, the security guard arrived and kindly asked me to leave the school grounds.
Instructor Michael briefed us how to handle the paddle.

It is a basic human right to defend your life and the life of your family should they be in imminent mortal danger. For those who choose to do so, it is their responsibility to learn how to safely carry and use a firearm... It is my goal to make sure people do not take this responsibility lightly and teach them to pray that, every time they holster their pistol, they need never have to use it.

Expecting awesome cloud-light at sunset (more on that later) during the Eastern Sierra workshop I attended in early May, everyone was exploring the shoreline of the Owens River to find some nice spots for the evening light. (See the photostreams of Jerry, one of the instructors next to David Muench, as well as Hank and Ralph.)
This is a shot I did during that time towards the east, not quite yet at sunset. Still, I like the clouds in this a lot, which kinda wrap around that tree in the middle-ground. At 1/3s exposure time, you also get a nice blur of the Owens River, which had (and probably still has) quite a lot of water this year.

The actual training here had to do with rescuing people from cars swept away due to flash floods. This is the instructor from Northern Virginia.
One more pic below with the following description: Mr. Zoom and I took a nice bike ride down to what is usually the rocky part of the river yesterday. Because of the rains from the remnants of Hurricane Hanna, the water was high. Goochland County was taking advantage of the rushing water to train their new Swift Water Rescue Team.

With the enthusiastic support and encouragement of his Goofy Foot Surf School instructor, Old Surfer Dude once again rides an enormous wave off the shores of Lahaina in Maui.
A mere 50 years has passed since the last time the old guy surfed in high school. He was a bit nervous when his son gave him surfing lessons for his birthday this year, but it ended up being a highlight of the trip as three generations surfed together for a few hours. The old guy didn't pop up quite as easily as his grandkids, but he made it!
I can't take credit for the picture, it was taken by the photographer with the surf school.
You guys asked for this one. Hope it doesn't get me booted off of Flickr for showing those legs!

I bought my first sailboat when I was 12 years old and have owned one ever since. But thought maybe it would be prudent to have a sailing lesson anyway.

After our tour of Daytona Speedway, Jessica, Jackson, and Joshua all drove this simulator in the NASCAR museum. The instructor said that women made better drivers than men.
