valerigail: @rosendaise thanks and yes. The stuff you see is an algae growing on top of the plant. The plant itself is under the water and thick. It's called Hydrilla Verticillata. In some cases it's good as it provides a nice habitat for fish.. But it can take over a lake if left unchecked.
