A story teller at heart, Spencer’s career has taken him to extremes. Using his skills as a visual journalist, designer and photographer, Wynn has lived the stories he tells saying, “ One can only truly tell a story of a people or culture if you have lived with the people or in the culture”.
His two-year documentary work on the 30th anniversary of the Bhopal gas disaster in India is one such example. Every day was spent with the survivors eating with them, sitting with them as they break down into tears, and even living in the slums with them - all to appreciate the essence of the story.

The Amber Alert program was started on a county basis in Texas by a sheriff involved in the case of a young girl named Amber Hagerman, who was forced into a truck by an abductor and later murdered. The alerts worked so well, that we started to go state-by-state to get them implemented on a national basis. After many trips to Washington, lots of lobbying of different committees, hearings, and a three-hour conference, the bill finally passed Congress. My family and I were there in the White House Rose Garden on April 30, 2003 when President George W. Bush signed the PROTECT ACT, establishing the federal government’s role in the AMBER Alert system.
A missing child is just as important as warning people of pending weather emergencies and the first four hours of child abduction are crucial. With the power of the Emergency Broadcast System and highway road signs missing child bulletin reached millions. Within the first year alone 100 children were recovered and saved with the help of Amber Alerts. It has become a huge tool for law enforcement.

After Adam’s murder, we were all over the place – Revé trying to start a national center and me trying to change laws that would force law enforcement to work together and make the safety of children a national legislative priority. We were approached by the now-deceased Hollywood production team of husband and wife Alan Landsburg and Linda Otto. They wanted to do a movie about Adam. They thought it was a compelling story and hoped that NBC would air it in prime time. They chose Daniel J. Travanti, the star of NBC's hit drama Hill Street Blues, to play me, and movie star JoBeth Williams to play Revé. Of course we knew nothing about television movies of the week, and were somewhat apprehensive. We hoped that it would not be exploitive or sensational. We got to know the Landsbergs and trusted them, and their movie “Adam” truly was a game changer... Daniel J. Travanti on the set of “Adam.”
