It's been a while since I've been to Pai and the first time to this location at Yonge and Eglinton.

It's a really nice place, upstairs from street level. The entrance doesn't give away much of what to expect once you get upstairs. The decor is beautiful, and so well done. It's like a street market. Great ambiance!

I have never been disappointed with the food at Pai, one of the best Thai restaurants in the city. My dining companion, visiting from Vancouver, was impressed.

If you love Thai food, this is one of the best places in Toronto!

I often don't have a plan for cooking a meal. I usually just wander through my local supermarkets, browsing the items on sale, and looking for inspiration.

This time, I found some shredded pork, and asparagus, both on sale. I threw in some Asian seasonings and did a quick stir-fry, topping it with some kimchi that I already had. It turned out delicious! I'll have to do this again.

Growing up in Jamaica, Thai food was virtually non-existent. Even during my early years in Toronto, my exposure to Thai food was found mostly in food courts. It wasn't until the last few years that I have discovered authentic Thai cuisine through foodie friends. Now there's no turning back!

Our most recent outing, to BKK Thai at Yonge and Steeles, had us enjoying some delicious, authentic Thai food with some modern twists.

Every bite was a treat and the flavours appealed to my senses. If you're craving, or would like to discover authentic Thai cuisine, check out Eat BKK Thai, with three locations in Toronto. Go ahead, treat yourself!

✉️✉️✉️ In correspondence with readers recently, a timid boy turned to me for advice))

⠀ 👉

I was pleasantly surprised that our children are learning the art of photo printing, so to speak, starting from the origins.

â €

👉 And so ... ❓The question of a young photographer, what is "wet" photo printing better than digital...

â €

Photochemical printing (or simply photo printing, "wet" printing) is a forgotten classic. Classic photo printing is characterized by smooth transitions in gradients and semitones, and printing has a more contrasting color rendering, grain and increased sharpness, which is not present in digital photo printing.

Nowadays, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find equipment and reagents for home "wet" printing. And the price of the question does not allow us to talk about color!đź’°

â €

Almost the same prints allow you to make machines of such dimensions that you can't put them home. To get something like this at home, you need a good expensive photo printer with a set of 6-7 colors and printing paper: silk or satin.

â €

In the end, home photo printing is not cheap.♂️

Instagrammers had set up a wild camp up on top of Winnats Pass. There for the climbing and the amazing sunrise we were blessed with. Nice foreground for us togs too :)

Here are some of the dishes from our wonderful meal at Som Tum Jinda. Besides the great tasting food, the ambiance was rustic and intimate, with attractive artwork and decor giving the space a welcome warmth.

Everything was absolutely delicious! Just don't ask me the names of the dishes. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Trust me on that!

Our first dish was a work of Art! Literally! It was presented under a glass dome filled with smoke. Lifting the dome and releasing the smoke revealed a Shrimp Ceviche - charred shrimp, wasabi-Thai chilled-garlic-cilantro-lime granita & cucumber-mango salsa. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to shrimps but if the presentation was any indication of flavour, it must have been fantastic! My dining companions certainly enjoyed it!

As 2022 came to a close, I had one more meal to cook, and I wanted it to be something special. I saw this great looking Nagano Pork Chop at Farm Boy. It was the last one in stock. It looked like a Tomahawk steak. Bingo!

Nagano Pork is 100% Canadian, from Quebec. It is butchered to Japanese specifications, resulting in an exceptional eating experience.

The seasonings were simple - garlic, rosemary, salt, pepper, olive oil. I seared it on an indoor grill and finished it in a toaster oven. The result was outstanding! It was thick, moist, and extremely tender. This was the best pork chop I have ever cooked! No exaggeration!

Asparagus, Haricot Vert, Heirloom Carrots, and Mini Potatoes completed this delicious meal. It was certainly fitting for my last meal of 2022. Happy New Year!

Photowalk With Instagrammers

I love this Instagrammer's posts which are always full of nature and wee beasties that visit their place. This portrait is of Ms. Bonita (Queen of Everything) a fat mama ground squirrel who rules her roost and enjoys the snacks her subjects leave her.

The original image (screen capture from a video) is not mine and this reproduction is not for sale or promotion, but simply for practice and reference.

I painted this exclusively with six self-evolving watercolors purchased from Rockwell Art Canada. They are sumptuous and I'm addicted!

There are very few occasions better than dining with friends, especially friends I've known for decades. We went on a road trip to Montreal many, many years ago and it solidified our bond that will never be broken. Even though life happens, we always make it a point to get together over a meal at least once a year.

Our original group of eleven has grown over the years, through marriage, kids, and even grandkids! Interestingly, our group's offspring includes three sets of twins! What are the odds?

Our potluck dinner included curry goat, jerk pork, chili chicken, pepperpot, chow mein, vermicelli, and much more. The highlight of our desserts was a beautiful and delicious Bundt cake by Caroline (shown here).

Talad Noi is located in the old downtown part of Bangkok. Originally it was the home of overseas Chinese and Chinese-Thai people with a very busy famous market (“Talad” means market in the Thai language). The owner of this land had a daughter named “Noi”, so the area got the name from them.

In the last few years it has become famous for street art and is a favourite place for street photographers and Instagrammers

The Birmingham Instagrammers are funning a competition to go up this iconic building next weekend to take pictures of Birmingham. I woke up early and this was my best effort on a wet and dreary morning using my lens baby. The building is not easy to photograph. By shooting through a plastic fence cover the lens gave a circular view of the building.

The simplest meals are sometimes the best meals! I had picked up a pack of Chinese Roast Pork (Siu Yuk) from a local Asian market. This, however, was the off-cuts, the bony leftover pieces from a whole roasted pig. This pack looked good, especially for only CDN$3.00/lb! Although mostly bony, there were several pieces with a lot of meat, and lots of the delicious crispy skin (cracklings).

Adding the pork and some vegetables to a simple pack of ramen noodles made a very tasty and very inexpensive meal. The entire cost of this meal was under CDN$3.00!

I'll have to keep my eyes open ,looking for more deals like this!

I made some Chinese style BBQ Pork Ribs, using the ingredients I had on hand. The ribs were boiled and then finished in the toaster oven with a honey/hoisin glaze. They turned out delicious and very tender.
