Sunrise at Saint Heliers Bay Beach on a Sunday morning. Wide-angle, long-exposure shot low on my tripod. My back was in pain so I appreciated the articulating screen on my Canon that morning.

Sitting immediately to the south of the village, Cawdor Wood contains a wonderful maze of tracks and trails, and it’s no accident that they’re here.

This landscape has been sculpted since the 17th century and is still managed by the Cawdor family who have resided at nearby Cawdor Castle for hundreds of years.

Although a designated National Scenic Area, the Dornoch Firth is one of the least well known beauty spots in Scotland. This however makes it a very quiet area, and Sutherland is often known as the 'quiet county'

Drive along the A9 north of Helmsdale and you encounter what remains one one of the most difficult, exposed and twistiest sections of the whole length of the road, despite recent improvements. The end of this stretch is marked definitively by the steep descent (including a gravel trap in case your lorry's brakes fail) to a sharp corner which marks the start of an even steeper climb to the north: a climb that comes complete with hairpin bends.
