During most of the days of the pandemic lockdown, we lived in a small town northwest of Arkansas. While it was the perfect place to hunker down, there were few famous landmarks to explore. But while it lacked some of the larger landscape staples, it had a lot of small lakes and forests that we could access.
One of our favorite spots to explore was a small lake near our home. I am still unsure whether I should call it a lake or a pond. While one side of the lake had a small airport, the other side, where wolf creek fed the lake, looked perfect. I used to visit this location often, especially after a storm, hoping to catch a dramatic sky, but the storms there often come with massive amounts of rain that turn the creek muddy. But one time, I was able to be there with clear water while the sky still had some cloud remnants from the storm that passed.
After squeezing my way down narrow alleyways, and through people coming and going from this "Instagram Photo" location, I worked my way over to this beautiful location to capture the Insta crowd in action.
Santorini, Greece. Village of Oia.
Special thanks to Sabastian of "Greece Explained" on YouTube, which made my wandering around on Santorini so much more enjoyable, with the limited time I had there.

When I first moved to the West Coast, one of our initial trips was to Santa Cruz. We took a short hike through a redwood grove near Santa Cruz, visited Natural Bridges State Park, and drove up the coast. While driving north, we stumbled upon a small cove called Shark Fin Cove, which I thought would be an excellent spot for landscape photography. Although I didn't have a chance to revisit the location, marking it on my map proved helpful when we visited Monterey earlier this year. During our weekend visit, the central coast was hit with a massive storm and heavy rain. Forcing us to rethink our initial plans. So we decided to try some scenic drives, and I was able to revisit all the spots we had stopped at during our first trip along this part of the coast. As expected, Shark Fin Cove didn't disappoint.

During our most recent trip to Zion National Park, I went to one of my favorite viewpoints, the Canyon Overlook, as it has become a tradition for me. I always love capturing the golden hour scenes of canyons, even though it's a challenging experience. However, the challenge of getting it right always seems to lure me out, even on a cold, blustery evening.
In the past, I relied heavily on exposure blending using an HDR plug-in and was never fully satisfied with the results. Over the years, I have learned that taking images with intention is important when you plan on exposure blending later. For this scene, I took images by exposing the darkest shadows and dialed in exposure compensation until I got the bright part in the sky exposed perfectly. It took me about five images, including my safety shots. Although I am not fully there with my editing, I love the results more now.
