Here's an abandoned school for "mental defectives'" bowling alley. Pretty heavy handed name for a location that supposedly catered to the needs of individuals who didn't "fit in" to what was considered normal at the time. The bowling alley was part of a recreational center that most likely allowed the residents of the school to engage in somewhat regular activities with each other, if, and only if, they behaved and were not acting upon whatever impulses got them interred. © 2014-Current.

"Are we dancing?

Are we really here?

Is this feeling something real or will it disappear?

Are we dancing?

Does the music soar?

Was this lovely song I hear ever heard before?

Are your eyes confessing things I alone can see?

Or is my imagination flying away with me?

Are we dancing?

Say, we really are!

Then I'll know that I reached into the sky...

I reached into the sky...

And touched a star." © 2012-Current.

One of the many cool things about abandonments is that even if they're completely bare of items or "stuff" to look at even the walls have some sort of character. © 2014-Current.

I suppose if this building wore white eyeliner it would be crying at the sad state of affairs it has arrived at, or perhaps this particular building bleeds white. © 2014-Current.

Taken at Crewe Heritage Centre:The Crewe Heritage Centre, formerly the Crewe Railway Age is a railway museum, located in Crewe, England. The Railway Age was rebranded to its original name of Crewe Heritage Centre in early 2008. It is administered by Crewe Heritage Trust Ltd.

The museum is located between the junction to Chester and the West Coast Main Line, in the old LMS railway yard which was once part of Crewe Works. There are three signal boxes including the large, all electrically operated Crewe North Junction signal box, which the public can operate and look around. There is also an extensive miniature railway with steam, diesel and electric traction. Brake Van rides are available to the public during special events and galas. The most prominent exhibit of the museum is the BR Class 370 APT, which is open to the public and includes a number of exhibits associated with the APT and models. The Main Exhibition Hall features many artefacts and exhibits associated with Crewe from its locomotive and carriage construction, and famous junction railway station. A cylinder and Caprotti valve gear from BR Standard Class 8 4-6-2 Pacific, no. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester', which was constructed at Crewe Works in 1954 is also on display. The prototype of the Bentley Continental GT motor car, which was launched in 2003, and built at the nearby Bentley Motor Works in Crewe, is on display.

Old snow plough and a plough lying about outside a farm in Asker, Norway. Taken on December 9th, 2006, there's not been much use for snow ploughs this "winter", so far. Farmers that have relied some of their income on removing snow in Oslo and surrounding areas are having a hard time.

I'm not quite sure what the message was supposed to be here, but it was among many other painted messages in the basement of an old mill where alcoholics anonymous meetings took place. Ironically, the mill had also, at some point, been turned into a bar. I don't know if the AA meetings operated at the same time as the bar was in business, but the confusing messages just added to the juxtaposition of the two locales. © 2013-Current.

This beautifully abandoned location suffered a pretty devastating arson fire a few years ago. I knew whoever owned the property intended to demo it, but when I drove by late last year I was thrilled to discover that they were rebuilding the Kirkbride, the building I'm standing in to take this shot of the courtyard behind it. The Kirkbride was often a forward and central building for psychiatric asylums, including this one, with branching wings on either side for women and men to be kept separate in their wards. From this vantage point of the photograph, you can see the two wards, one on either side of the courtyard, the left-hand one partially burned from a previous fire over a decade ago. Though the campus is going to be turned into a large community center with supermarkets, daycares, and shopping, I am truly elated that the beautiful Kirkbride will be saved, if not the wards or the buildings beyond the Kirk's shadow. © 2013-Current.

This reel room with all its leftover equipment was left behind in the recreation center when the asylum it was in closed down in the late 1970s. Interestingly, a part of the campus was still being used when I took this shot, but they never moved any equipment over to it. I guess it was too much trouble. These buildings no longer stand, sadly. © 2013-Current.

Especially since the elevator was located in an abandoned mill out in Pennsylvania. The little window is an interesting touch! © 2013-Current

Hooray for alliteration! This location is pretty neat because you can freely walk the campus, but because of this the buildings are all very secure. Still, nothing quite like some architectural shots and all that lovely brick! © 2014-Current.

I should have known back then, when I brought my ex to an abandoned village that it was the beginning of the end. He got high, immediately, and didn't listen to a damn thing I said about exploring and being careful. Thankfully, the location I brought him to, was an easy explore and rarely patrolled heavily, but the lack of respect for me and the lack of respect he had for the buildings and areas he was in was telling. But I ignored it. For years. And that lack of respect continued, and got worse. I'm glad I can look back on those dark days and simply frown instead of being dictated by them. I'm so much happier now, so full of joy and with someone who not only respects me but does his utmost to care about me and my opinions. It's a brighter day now. © 2014-Current.
