Inner Harbour and environs as the day winds down in Victoria, BC, Canada
Here's wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Reconstruction of the 16th-century Ghent inner harbour as a setting for the shooting of a historical film. Beauty flaw: the man in the white shirt wears bracers, but they only came into fashion in the first quarter of the 18th century! Is he a time traveller?

Night reflections of the big city and harbour
False Creek is a short inlet in the heart of Vancouver. It separates downtown from the rest of the city. It was named by George Henry Richards during his Hydrographic survey of 1856-63. George Richards named False Creek during his survey of the coast in the mid-19th century. While traveling along the south side of the Burrard Inlet, he thought he was traversing a creek; upon discovering his error, he gave the waterway its modern name. Wikipedia

“We don't read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. So medicine, law, business, engineering... these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love... these are what we stay alive for.”
—Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass
The Twin Sails Bridge (also known as The Second Harbour Crossing) is a double leaved bascule bridge in Poole, Dorset, England. The bridge provides a second road link from Poole Town Centre to Hamworthy. The intention is that the bridge will allow development of four major sites, two in the town centre and two in Hamworthy, including the old power station, which was closed in 1988.
This shot was taken when the bridge had started to close.
Fisherman’s Wharf is strategically located at the intersection of Victoria’s Inner and Outer Harbours. It is the first significant marine property protected from southwest winds and surge, and has been long been identified as a safe refuge for mooring vessels.
A view across the South Bay at Scarborough from back in March as the sun was starting to sink in the sky.The slight mist and the sun washed the whole of the town in this beautiful diffused golden light. I tried to keep the sun out of the frame and as such it has made the image more of a silhouette. The burnt out sea in the inner harbour is quite obvious but I don't think it detracts to much from the overall image.
Thanks for taking the time to view this and other images in my stream.
Victoria’s Inner Harbour and the Parliament Buildings sparkle in the early evening.
The construction of the Parliament Buildings (home of the British Columbia Legislative Assembly) began in 1893 and was led by architect Francis Rattenbury. Rattenbury made every effort to use local materials, resources and expertise. The Parliament Buildings of British Columbia, Canada were officially opened in February 1898. However details, refinishing, additions and upgrades were ongoing until 1915 (1).
The silhouette of the Legislature was illuminated with electric lighting in 1897 for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, one year before the building was completed, and has continued to be illuminated at night ever since (2).

I didn't bring my camera with me as I didn't think I'd have any time to take pictures. Now I could kick myself. Had to take photos with my iPad.
Stornoway, largest town in the Outer Hebrides, with a skyline dominated by the three spires which rise above the rooftops; The spire of the Free Church of Scotland, Martin's Memorial church, and the spire of the Town Hall, with its beautiful clock.
Ice cover on the Great Lakes has dropped from nearly 90% at the end of February to almost 55%. Last year it wasn't until June that the lakes were free from ice. This is the second record breaking year for ice cover. It's very dangerous to go out on the ice at the end of March as the ice retreats.

As I wandered round the inner harbour at Mevagissey I came across a fisherman who had spread his net out across the quay, and was busy repairing a few tears where the net had caught on the seabed. We had a pleasant chat for a couple of minutes and then I took this shot of the inner harbour. The blue building on the left is the fish market. Several gulls were waiting patiently on the roof for another boat to come in and unload its catch, in the hope that they may get a few scraps.
