“We can now go to the market with much ease, and as a result of that, our income has increased by 10 – 20%. Also, since the construction of this road and culverts, even amidst heavy rain, the area has not been going under water.”

In 2011, a 1km tarred access road with 3 culverts were constructed in Thihilivettai, under the Japan Livelihood Development Project of UNDP’s Transition Recovery Programme, enhancing access to markets and services, providing safety and contributing to flood mitigation.

The construction of 47 permanent houses in Thihilivettai took place under UNDP’s Community Rehabilitation Project - III, funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
