This morning I had the benefit of shooting an event for the City's Information Technology Branch. I had been curious about how the IT Branch is transforming itself with a new organizational structure and today I got to see a physical demonstration of the new 'matrix'. It's not as mysterious as it sounds.
Don't quote me on the exact structure of the new organizational matrix (I'll confirm tomorrow and correct my description), but the IT branch is moving away from the traditional hierarchy and reporting structure to one that better reflects the skills and interests of the Branch employees. There are various team leaders or coaches where people start, but then they branch off to support communities of interest, sometimes a few communities of interest.
This is where the physical demonstration of the matrix got interesting. Each individual was given a spool of coloured string. One end was held by the coach, the coach holding multiple ends from multiple individuals. Then, each individual went off to find the communities of interest that they supported. They would then give a section of that string to the leader at the community of interest and then go off to the next community of interest that they support.

employees are chatting in a canteen named "terminal" inside Infosys campus at Bangalore, Infosys (named as infy in NASDAQ ) is one of the major IT company in India ... this is one of the five big canteens inside the campus.. having a capacity of more than 25,000 employees in this campus, these five canteens, such as terminal, lotus etc , serve quality food and refreshment ... employees having an average age of not more than 25, feels the atmosphere inside the campus just as in Seattle or any other city in the USA ... young , vibrant and talented pool of professionals work in a truly global environment inside the campus...
