Mourning Dove Count for GBBC: 6
The mourning dove (Zenaida macroura) is a member of the dove family, Columbidae. The bird is also known as the American mourning dove or the rain dove, and erroneously as the turtle dove, and was once known as the Carolina pigeon or Carolina turtledove.[2] It is one of the most abundant and widespread of all North American birds. It is also a leading gamebird, with more than 20 million birds (up to 70 million in some years) shot annually in the U.S., both for sport and for meat. Its ability to sustain its population under such pressure is due to its prolific breeding; in warm areas, one pair may raise up to six broods of two young each in a single year. The wings make an unusual whistling sound upon take-off and landing, a form of sonation. The bird is a strong flier, capable of speeds up to 88 km/h (55 mph).[3]
Mourning doves are light grey and brown and generally muted in color. Males and females are similar in appearance. The species is generally monogamous, with two squabs (young) per brood. Both parents incubate and care for the young. Mourning doves eat almost exclusively seeds, but the young are fed crop milk by their parents.
Information about Harlech Castle
Harlech Castle in Harlech, Gwynedd, Wales, is a Grade I listed medieval fortification built onto a rocky knoll close to the Irish Sea. It was built by Edward I during his invasion of Wales between 1282 and 1289 at the relatively modest cost of £8,190.
I could not find any information about Gravenstein but she has space on the top deck for at least nine folks to party. She has a classic look with attractive wood accents. The two wooden kayaks were built from kits from the Pygmy Boats. Unfortunately, that company is now listed as permanently closed. I built one of their kits and enjoyed doing it with some very helpful tips from their phone team. It has been a joy to paddle. Daehangno is an artistic neighborhood that stretches 1.1 kilometers from Jongno 5-ga Intersection to Hyehwa-dong Rotary. The area is filled with culture and performing arts facilities, with the center of all this being Marronnier Park. Visitors can find performances taking play every day at the many theaters large and small, as well as restaurants serving a range of cuisines. The area is especially active on weekends and during the street festival period.
No information is on the slide mount of this duplicate, but I believe this to be a westbound above Mt. Savage MD taken from the Parkersburg Road overpass. This section of double track was left in place and was the only point for trains to meet between Sand Patch/Deal and Cumberland after the line was CTC'd. JL Sessa collection.
