Toledo is a city in central Spain, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986.
Toledo is known as the "Imperial City" because it was the headquarters of the court of Charles V, and as the "City of Three Cultures" because of the cultural influence of Christians, Muslims and Jews in its history. It is known for its long history in the production of edged weapons.
The city sits on top of a mountain, bordered on three sides by the Tagus River, containing many monuments, including the Alcazar and the Gothic Primate Cathedral of Spain.

But what was strange is that lately it was not the first time that she had seen crows in the old palace although they were rare - I have new secret admirers, she thought as she smiled.

Every now and then you see an image on Flickr that really impresses you. Just recently I saw two on Andy Gant's stream of two different boats. This is not my attempt to copy them, because they are unique, but to praise them. Very well done, I like what you do.
Also this is the last image that I will be posting to Flickr for at least two weeks. I have accumulated many books again and will be putting them on EBay. Japanese rock gardens (枯山水) developed closely with Zen Buddhism in the Muromachi Period (室町時代 14th - 16th century) departing from the Chinese influence. Rock gardens were the places for meditation.
Originally, gardens were designed to symbolise Ho(u)raisan (蓬莱山), which is a mythical island mountain in the sea inhabited by immortals. It is like a Taoism version of paradise. The mountain was made by a stonework while the sea by a pond. It was a Japanese invention to substitute the expanse of white sand for the water. This kind of metaphoric technic is called Mitate (見立て), which is a key word not only for gardening but also for Japanese arts in general.
In the Azuchi Momoyama Period (安土桃山時代 16th century), gardens came to be built in castles, and in the Edo Period (江戸時代 17th to 19th century) in private residences as well. As the travel became easier, Mitate of famous landscapes such Mt. Fuji, Miyajima, Yoshinoyama, Wakanoura etc. became popular. Themes of gardens shifted from religious symbolism to secular symbolism.
The rock garden in Gyokudo Art Museum symbolises the flow of the Tamagawa according to the museum website. The rocks in the garden are apparently brought from the real Tamagawa just outside.
Built in 1847 and first used as the Parliament of United Canada. Its design was influenced by Dublin's Customs House.

Nuuk has a maritime-influenced tundra climate (Köppen ET) with cold, long, snowy winters and cool, short summers. Although the winters in Nuuk are relatively cold, they are milder compared to other tundra climates, such as in Alaska in the United States or parts of Eastern Siberia. On 21 December, the shortest day and longest night of the year, the sun rises at 10:30 am and sets at 2:20 pm. By contrast, on the longest day and shortest night of the year, 21 June, the sun rises at 2:54 am and does not set until 12:04 am, giving a quasi-Midnight Sun
This common year-round resident of the deciduous and mixed forests of eastern North America is also found in older urban and suburban areas with mature trees and vegetation. The Tufted Titmouse's gray-crested head, rust-colored flanks, black forehead and large eyes make it easily identifiable, even for casual birders. It is a frequent visitor to bird feeders during fall and winter where individuals prefer sunflower seeds and suet, and often cache many of those seeds throughout their territories. This is an active bird, moving along branches, and often searching under them, for arthropods. It is also a vocal species, frequently uttering contact calls and chick-a-dee calls and, in spring and summer, singing its ‘peter-peter-peter' songs.
Tufted Titmice and chickadees are ‘nuclear' species, often joined in winter flocks by a variety of ‘satellite' species. As a ‘nuclear' species, titmice influence the paths that flocks follow, are aggressive mobbers of potential predators, and often take the lead during mobbing events. The calls that titmice utter when mobbing provide information about the presence of predators for heterospecifics as well as conspecifics
During the past 70 years, the range of this species has expanded northward into New England and southern Canada, with climatic warming likely the most important factor, but bird feeders also a factor. The northern distribution of titmice is likely limited by average minimum temperature rather than food availability.

Power lines border this rural road along the San Mateo County coast adding to the lonely feel. I've always felt the best way between two points on the map is to use the road less traveled. I think this lonesome road qualifies. Loneliness can have a powerful influence on the creation of art. I never turn my back on a brooding scene.
