Corralled, as they are, into strict hierarchical submission, the individual pipes of this colony lifeform (that we know as an 'Organ') act as the voice of the animal. Untold years of evolution have rendered the pipes incapable of surviving outside of the collective, but they still retain their individuality in the timbre and pitch of their voices. Ancient, pre-collective tribal allegiancies may also be noted in the skin patterns of the various 'registers', which tend, apart from small variations or mutations in each rank, to be similar.
Much is still unknown about the private lives of these enormous beasts, but one thing we know for sure - they can be very, very loud when they are excited.
Some Humans have learnt to communicate with and, indeed, through, these animals. A certain J. S. Bach is noted for his mastery of the language of the 'Organ'.
The specimen depicted here lives in the Parish and Priory Church of Saint Nicholas at Arundel, West Sussex.

High Street, Markyate (Hertfordshire). It is not just the play of light and shadow here. I am interested in the shape of the corners of these two houses. The point is that they have been built individually with a clear purpose in mind: that horse-drawn coaches or carts could access the backyard. That is why sharp and protruding corners were avoided.

I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen with my eyes!
Shimmering in silky tones, trembling with beauty and individuality... joined in passion like grown from one stem, they belong together.
I discovered these, a salmon pink I had NEVER seen before! The petals look 'waxy' but feel silky soft!
The peony was originally introduced as medicine. In fact, its ancient Japanese name "Ebisugusuri" literally means ‘medicine from China’.
However, due to its beautiful and now mostly double blooms, in time, many decorative varieties were developed. In Japanese society, it was seen both as a medicine and a source of beauty.
THANKS for ALL your comments and visits, so appreciated.
Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*)

The One Who Looks Elsewhere
Under the same sky, on the same wire, five swallows share a moment. Four face the same direction, seeing the world alike, while one — the fifth — chooses to look the other way. Perhaps it sees something the others don’t, perhaps it’s seeking its own path, or maybe it just likes being different. Because the world needs those who defy routine, who turn their gaze and discover the new.
Purveyors of quality motor cars to those who preferred individuality to the banality of mass production, the long established Coventry firm of Lea-Francis recommenced production after World War Two with its 1939 range, offering 12 and 14hp models in saloon and drophead coupé forms, both of which were powered by Lea-Francis's own Riley-style twin-cam overhead-valve four.
This rare 1950 built Lea-Francis 14hp 'Woody' estate car, KAD 413, was on display among other classic and vintage cars at Welland Steam Rally in Worcestershire on 29th July 2023.
I've got several folders full of photos that have not yet made the flickr "cut". It's not that they're bad images or that they displease me. The problem is that at any given moment, they just don't seem to fit in. And for me, the concept of fitting in is a moving target. What fits today may not fit tomorrow. And when something finally does fit, it may be totally too late. Just like a witty comeback that does not occur until days after someone says something to you. For me it's often a seasonal issue involving, for example, winter photos that seem wholly out of place once spring arrives. I prefer my photostream reflects the current moment, at least visually in terms of time of year. It's one of many limitations I place upon publication of photos that fortunately has no impact on my creation of them.
This photo's moment finally arrived this morning. A sunset view of nascent winter wheat, barely three inches tall, but appearing to tower under a twilight sky. I love seeing the individuality of the thin stalks. They work together to provide a monolith of green when viewed from a distance. Yet up close, each one seems to express its own shape and character. As always, shooting scenes of vibrant color under diminished lighting appeals to my sense of understating the obvious aspect in favor of a lesser one. It's my way of fitting in.

In a field full of beautiful red poppy flowers, it is impossible to see that in reality each of these thousands of flowers is unique. Their individuality disappears in the crowd.
Only large differences, such as the three pink flowers in the foreground or the cornflowers, whose blue shines in several places, attract our attention.
But that's a shame, because that's exactly how we view our fellow human beings. If someone isn't particularly energetic or particularly shrill, we hardly notice them or not at all. And so the loud and shrill ones get so much more attention and therefore so much more power.
At the same time, the quiet and reserved are not only overlooked, they are forgotten.
And it's all just out of sheer convenience. Because it takes a lot of time and energy to wander through the field to take a closer look at as many flowers as possible.
You don't have to address them all, and certainly not all of them at the same time. But if we take some time every now and then to look for a special flower in the sea of conformity, we are sure to discover one or two treasures.
And that goes even further. Because if these flowers symbolize our fellow human beings, then we are also one of these flowers. And that brings me to an exciting question.
Are you already aware of your uniqueness?
And so I wish you all a week full of discovery. And that both in your environment and within yourself.
Seid Ihr Euch Eurer Einzigartigkeit schon bewusst ?

INDIVIDUALITY
Artist: Jessi McConnell (@jessthesnapper, @jessiikate)
Location: Clique Organic Salons, 417 King Street West
Medium: Photography
Year: 2019
In 2007, at the age of 16 years old, Jessi McConnell began a photographic journey with an affordable point-and-shoot camera. McConnell has continued to capture the visuals of everything around her. While her main focus is capturing sentimental moments for clients, her passion project is focused on landscape photography, and capturing the details and unique textures of nature.
My collection of photographs is a visual representation of how I view “the little things”. Despite seeming small or unimportant, it’s the little things that ultimately drive our day-to-day emotions. These images show the details of nature in an up close and personal form that may not be seen if not captured.
Beneath the same white face paint.......Five (Maiko) Geisha with different personality, individuality and life experiences......
I took this picture when I visited Gion, Japan while on Holiday.. It is not easy to meet One Geisha.. to see Five is very lucky indeed. This shows their front view and in another picture in my stream, shows the beauty of their neckline....
With this picture, I was lucky to have won a second prize in a local Open Exhibition Competition.. So I would like to share with you....
Makapu'u Point Lighthouse is located on the windward coast, in the southeast corner of Oahu Island in the Hawaiian archipelago. It has become a tourist attraction with a well kept trail of about 2.5 miles from the parking lot to the lighthouse and back. We spotted several humpback whales while we were there.

On the streets of Seoul these days, 6 out of 10 women in their 20s wear white headphones on their heads. She wears white clothes and wears long hair.
It's like teaching at a private school, but they don't know each other.
They lost their individuality in following the trend, but they look pretty.

Run. Move forward. Alone.
Alone is the fastest way, isn't it?
Alone for not always we have someone that will
Accept my uniqueness.
For giving up what makes me – me
Is practically giving up on me.
We all carry with us, this thing that
Makes us unique. Make us shine.
We carry ourselves. and this individuality of mine
Is my power. It is what enables me to move forward
To be a runner of long distance.

My Monday floral greeting today, exceptionally, doesn't include a single flower, but a mushroom (so it's a mushroom greeting).
"Where's the mushroom?" you might be asking. And that's exactly where we're at.
But first, the mushroom is in the foreground, in the center. Although it has absolutely nothing in common with leaves (it's not even a plant, strictly speaking), it's almost indistinguishable from them.
Have you ever experienced someone (perhaps even yourself) trying so hard not to stand out, to fit in (to avoid conflict), that they became invisible?
That gradually all individuality was suppressed until it was almost impossible for even that person to recognize themselves anymore.
Well, I'm coming clean now, because I was one of those people for most of my childhood and adolescence (though I had plenty of time and opportunity to bring things back into balance).
If any of you feel addressed by this, there's nothing to worry about if you're aware of it and feel completely comfortable in this situation.
If not, I invite you on a journey. A journey to yourself. Discover who you truly are and where your place is in this world. Whether you stand out or not is irrelevant. The most important thing is that you feel at home there.

What is cracked lets the light through. And it is through wear that industrially produced objects acquire their character, their individuality, and become irreplaceable. This kind of reflection is nothing new. Just as exile — which one once naïvely thought to turn one’s back on — had already been written, imperfectly, in the awkward gestures of a twenty-year-old boy. We are primates. We live quite literally "in the wake of a mandrill", and we are biologically wired to believe in divinity. That is what cracked the Gnostic demigod-bashers, whether they called him Samael or Ialdabaoth; what turned Wolfgang Pauli into an alcoholic, genius notwithstanding. And yet we are forced — limping along, for better or worse, blindly, by sheer chance — to keep moving forward, echoing an older procession of cripples (back in more boastful times). This is what explains the joy of returning to one’s “ground,” of reconnecting with a seventh landscape one failed to cherish enough, of fantasizing about a return to the source, reunions, or even imagining graceful funeral rites. To love the crack or to attempt its repair? It hardly matters. To season the leftovers of meat and vegetables spilling out of the Römertopf, to carry through to the end an old theme barely sketched out: to speak of monkeys and civilization, to imply that every imitation is necessarily diabolical, that we know perfectly well how to recognize a parody of empire.
Never seeing New York — keeping its kitsch intact — staying in tow, sparing oneself the impact. Sometimes it is better not to raise one’s voice. Sometimes it is not necessary to have done one’s homework. Sometimes there is no need to feel guilty. That does not prevent apologizing for one’s shortcomings. Better late than never, despite a fragment already released during a thirty-fifth winter, and in the resurrection of a ursine sigh — technically magpie-patterned, symbolically bipolar.

I'm not too familiar with Mercedes-Benz models and I'm only guessing that this is a 1960s W108 model based on a Wikipedia photo, but it looks to me like the kind of luxury car a wannabe dictator or gangster of the era would ride around in.
I do love old cars, they have so much character and individuality that modern rides mostly lack.

It is an overstatement that classical Greek sculpture always showed an idealised human typography. This death mask (third century AD. Below the plaster mold cast from the dead man, above a silicone cast taken from the mold. Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki) demonstrates that there was also an interest in capturing the individuality of the portrayed person. The sculpture resulting from this would have the individual features of the dead man's face. Leica M8 plus Voigtlaender 35/1.4.

A view of the Austin home and studio of Elisabet Ney (1833 – 1907), a German-American sculptor. Ney spent the first half of her life and career in Europe producing portraits of famous leaders such as Otto von Bismarck, Giuseppe Garibaldi, and King George V on Hanover.
At age 39, Ney immigrated to Texas with her husband. In the early 1880s, Ney was invited to Austin by Governor Oran M. Roberts. In 1892, she built a home that was as unique as her artistic style. This castle home, named Formosa, which means 'beautiful' in Portuguese, was a one-of-a-kind structure in the Hyde Park neighborhood north of Austin. It stood out amidst the stately Victorian homes and Craftsman bungalows that soon followed, a testament to Ney's individuality and creativity.
Ney's castle is built from rough local Texas limestone, contrasting with the European design. The balance between classical and rustic is everywhere here. The unmanicured native grasses and trees give the castle its natural setting, as she wished. Inside, refined marble statues sit in a studio roughly hewn from stone and wood.
Ney's works in Texas include marble sculptures of Sam Houston and Stephen Austin, which can now be seen in the Texas State Capitol and the National Statuary Hall Collection in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Today known as the Elisabet Ney Museum, the "castle" is a cornerstone of the Hyde Park Historic District, listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The district is roughly defined by West 40th Street to the south, West 45th Street to the north, Duval Street to the east, and Avenue A to the west. It includes Victorian architecture, Tudor Revival architecture, and bungalows.
No two created beings are exactly alike. And their individuality is no imperfection. On the contrary, the perfection of each created thing is not merely in its conformity to an abstract type but in its own individual identity with itself. This particular tree will give glory to God by spreading out its roots in the earth and raising its branches into the air and the light in a way that no other tree before or after it ever did or will do.

The variety of the chimneys in the Grande rue of Besancon had impressed me very much as a sign of great individuality. Here I had a small selection presented in airy height above the apartments.
Art education can be dangerous. It often kills individuality and establishes a mold. Certainly you must know the fundamental tools and materials and how to use them, but you must do the discovering yourself :-)
