An indication of the size of the Cameron's Dam puddlers (this is East). It supports the idea that the old track brought the drays down from Morgan's and Ned Capon's diggings to use these two puddler beside the more reliable water supply of the large dam.

I've visited Bosbury church at least three or four times in recent years and it never disappoints, a church full of interest and remarkable in appearance, the first indication of this being the massive detached red sandstone tower that stands like a fortress at the edge of the churchyard beside the roadside, some distance from the main body of the church. It is a huge great block, like the keep of some ancient castle had been planted in a rural Herefordshire churchyard as a sentinel to watch over it, and indeed being border territory in medieval times that was largely the thinking behind it.
Holy Trinity church itself is a substantial building even without an attached tower, and dates mostly from the Transitional period, being a mix of late Norman and early Gothic styles. The only part that clearly does not belong to this phase is the Morton chantry on the south side, which erupts from the south aisle in a burst of Perpendicular traceried windows and battlements.
Inside the church feels uncommonly large for a parish church, and the nave arcades clearly evoke the stylistic cusp of the Transitional 1200s, being pointed arches but springing from Norman-style capitals. The ancient font has recently been reinstated at the west end of the nave, having been in the south aisle on my previous visits. The Morton Chantry is a delight inside, replete with a delicate late medieval vaulted ceiling with pendant bosses including a rebus of the deceased.
The most memorable features inside Bosbury church however aren't revealed until one progresses to the chancel, where this great dark space is dominated by two huge Renaissance style monuments flanking the sanctuary. They are the work of one John Guldo of Hereford, who may have been of continental origin as the style of these tombs is of a type not commonly seen here but more so in Northern Europe. The tombs of the Harford family commemorate father and son respectively, and of the two that on the north side is by far the richest in terms of its exuberant detail. There is a rustic quality to the carving, but it is nevertheless a florid and impressive display like no other.
This is one of those churches one shouldn't miss if exploring the area as it is rather special, and happily is normally open and welcoming to visitors (even on this my most recent visit, when other churches nearby were still reluctant to reopen after Lockdown).

We do know however that the photograph was taken prior to the summer of 1918 because it states on the back of the card that a halfpenny is required for inland postage - this rate was doubled to one penny in June 1918 in order to help pay for the Great War.

Your roof is like a silent guardian. Day in and day out, it stands guard, protecting your home or business from the elements. But even the most resilient of guardians can show signs of wear and tear over time. Recognizing these signals early enough can save you from costly repairs or even a complete roof replacement. So, let's unmask the telltale signs that show it's time to give your roof the attention it deserves.
Inside Out: Start with an Inner Inspection
The health check of your roof begins from within, where some of the earliest signs of trouble often surface. Here's what to look for:
1. Uninvited Sunlight:
If sunlight is making an unwelcome entrance through your roof, it's akin to a flashing neon sign screaming "Roof Replacement Needed". Remember, where light can sneak in, so can water, leading to a cascade of problems. However, if the light is peeking through vents, such as those at the peak of your attic, then that's normal.
2. Signs of Water Damage:
Armed with a flashlight, examine the underside of your roof for any dark stains, streaks, or sagging - all signs of water damage. If you spot these, it's time to call in the experts. You may not need a full-blown roof replacement - a localized patch-up might suffice. However, it's essential to get a professional roofing company to assess the damage and prevent it from spreading.
Exterior Examination: Look for External Indications
Once you've assessed the interior, it's time to step outside and look for signs that your roof may be nearing the end of its lifespan.
1. Pooling Water or Water Damage:
For those with flat roofs, watch out for significant pooling or water accumulation. While a bit of standing water is acceptable, larger puddles require immediate attention. In colder climates, these can freeze and expand, creating gaps in your roof seams. Dark stains or streaks on the exterior or under soffit venting are also clear indicators of water infiltration - a strong signal that you need a roof replacement.
2. Shingle Status:
The condition of your shingles is a good indicator of your roof's health. Be it rotting wooden shingles or asphalt ones that are curling or peeling at the edges, damaged or missing shingles call for immediate professional intervention. Also, remember to check your gutters for any fragments of crumbled shingles.
3. The Flashing Factor:
Flashing is your roof's waterproofing champion, protecting chimneys, skylights, walls, and other roof joints from water damage. Roof leaks often originate from damaged flashing, so look out for visible signs of wear and tear. Repairing the flashing can be a cost-effective way to prevent expensive water damage later.
As a leading Residential and Commercial Roofing company in College Station, we believe in educating our customers about the importance of roof maintenance. Recognizing the signs of roof damage early on can save you from costly repairs and ensure the longevity of your roof. So, keep an eye out for these signals and remember, we're just a call away to help you with any roofing concerns. Together, let's ensure your roof remains a sturdy guardian for your home or business.
