Stokksnes beach is a magnet for photographers, everyone trying to get the best view of the beautiful Vestrahorn mountain. The other surrounding spots are most of the time disregarded. Happily, away from the beach, on the other side of the road (westwards) there are even more black sand dunes, topped with the amazing yellow (due to wintertime, I imagine) tall grass, that provide ample opportunities to take incredible shots. This photo was taken at sunset, with a beautiful orangeish glow from golden hour light.

I went to the Resolution Exhibition this past weekend, and got the chance to meet Q. While we were chatting.. he said to me.."We should do a picture together".. and of course, I couldn't refuse. We met up at the new La Vie En Pose Fair round and went looking for something we could do that would be fun. I spotted this great surf board with poses by SSP..and thought it would be great to try out. If you've seen Q's work, you know he's a surfer..and when he took me surfing, and I got to see how good he actually is..I knew I needed this Pro to give me a few surfing lessons *grins*

We took our shots at Lono-Surf Haven, and if you've never been there..you are missing out!! Beautiful sim.. AMAZING waves.. incredible surfing experience... and the perfect backdrop for my lesson on the board!

Olympus digital camera , this little camera is capturing the most incredible shots , so if you like what I have been taking the past few shots the next one will blow you away , I cant believe I have had this camera for all this time and never used it because I thought it did not look professional enough to be seen shooting with , well I was WRONG , this is getting better images than most expensive cameras , you decide .

It was during a 5 minute drive down from Cook's Meadow that I realized I had just left a dozen incredible shots in a row as incredible rays burst over the valley, but there was no where to pull over. Suddenly I was driving through light mist and sunshine and I KNEW there had a to be a rainbow over the valley from the tunnel view, but it would be gone by the time I got there. Then I came around the corner of El Capitan Meadown and the sun was streaming through the yellow leaves in front of the Cathedral Rocks and I wanted to stop…but I wanted the rainbow….and ….

And that's all it takes for me to completely lose my mind. Put me in an environment where there are 20 amazing things to shoot all at once and ask me to choose ONE, then sit back and watch me explode. I was hitting my brake pedal and the accelerator at the same time. I decided on the Valley View and hit the accelerator again. Suddenly I found myself behind a tour bus from Brea and I KNEW their next stop would be the Gates of the Valley View and that the whole area would be overrun if they got there first. I tried to pass the bus, but the driver decided it was easier to drive ON the dotted line and almost killed me. I finally floored it and got in front of him with only a few seconds to spare. I dashed out the car and finished this bracket just as 50 tourists from Brea piled out.

This was fairly typical for a clearing storm at Yosemite. Sit around and nothing happens for 9 hours and when something does happen, it all happens at once.

With a former BN SD40, L76 crosses the diamond with the I&O as they leave Lima for Findlay. Original to the 1941 upgrade of the interlocking, a NKP R2 still protects the crossing. While not an incredible shot, this has been a bucket list item for me for some time, as this job runs under the cover of darkness most of the year. Even in the summer it leaves when light is fleeting, making this a tricky shot to get. With so few NKP R2s still in service, I'm glad to have a presentable shot here.

Thank you for the lovely comments and faves recently :-)

This one is just for you to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of my little corner. Minimal editing on this to give a real feel.

I wanted to share with all of you, my wonderful friends, that I will be retiring on May 2nd...after over 31 years at my job, I feel it is time for me to savor life at a different pace, as I will turn 64 next month...thankfully, I already have the most rewarding pastime imaginable, in nature photography, and I hope the Good Lord grants me the opportunity to explore it in more depth and richness than ever before, for as long as He sees fit!

I also look very forward to having the time to properly comment on your incredible shots, an area I admit that I've been sorely deficient in, for the longest time!

I can only hope that the best is yet to come for all of us...God bless you all!

Purakaunui is a gem of the New Zealand south island. As people walk along the short path to these falls often times fan tails can be seen, and mist may rise up from the slow moving creak. I got some incredible shots from this location that were lost due to a hard drive error, but I’ll never forget the little kid with his rubber boots splashing along the bottom of these falls exploring the deep green world of the forest below a waterfall.

No incredible shots, but hopefully this collage will give you an idea of how much fun the otters were having this weekend, eating small, obviously yummy fish in an evidently bountiful area at Delta Ponds.

Incredible shot by Magissa Denver.

Other people photograph and post those incredible shots of acres of lavender growing and do so in gorgeous morning light. What do I find? Lavender houses in a construction site.

The Weather Network lied. They said yesterday was going to be sunny so I got up really early in order to get out and take advantage of morning light. What you see in the sky here was the only moment of the day when there was a slight break in the grey/white sky.

So I shot a few things, looked at them on the camera monitor and thought, "Ugh, I'm going home. There's just too much that I have to do today." As I was driving home I passed this construction site and the sight of these new houses with their pink/purple insulation boards caught my eye.

They'll have to do until I find a real field of lavender.

:-)

This weekend I had the privilege of shooting this sunrise with some fabulous Flickr photogs. Andrew Kumler , little m, Rachel [Cherry Pixel] and Ryan Dyar This was pretty much the extent of our color the entire weekend but felt lucky to have any in the dead of winter. The Oregon Coast scenery never disappoints. For some enteratinment feel free to read little m's story on her Dyar Straights shot. Hope you are all well. Trying to catch up with everyones streams today. And as always, thanks for your visit :)

While rafting 188 miles over 6 days there were many thousand potentially incredible shots. Because of the harsh elements of water, sand, slit in the Colorado river I didn't take my DSLR but instead an Olympus underwater point and shoot. as the days wore on the non glass lens on the camera became more and more scratched and the picture quality deteriorated day by day.

A fabulous new park has opened up in Brooklyn!

Though I spent the summer away, I was delighted to visit the spot through the wonderful work of Barry Yanowitz, Vitaliy P. , krugerlive, Cran Burry and Rafakoy. Check them out, they're all incredible shots and it's fascinating seeing different artists' interpretations of the same place.

Of course, once I got back to Brooklyn I thought it was about time a girl got down there...

(and preferably a girl with some film) and so, here's my humble contribution.

Thanks boys for letting me jump on to the 'inspiration telephone' you've got going! ;)

Kebler Pass, Crested Butte, CO

My fiancé and I returned to Kebler pass again this year in hopes of some nicer weather to do some hiking. Not that last year's stormy weather wasn't spectacular for photography. We were excited to spend the day on some trails rather than just driving Kebler Pass. We arrived and were lucky enough to find a nice spot to camp at Horse Ranch Park for the night. Our first hike of the day was up to Beckwith Pass. We had incredible views overlooking the valley, Ruby Peak and the Dyke. After returning from our hike, we spent some time relaxing in the hammock under some gorgeous aspens. It was a picture perfect fall day in Colorado, filled with gorgeous fall color and sunshine. We cooked some dinner before a sunset hike up to this viewpoint. When we arrived a group of guys were already set up with their tripods shooting away. Thankfully, they left the best spot open for me to take. They all chatted back and forth about different gear as one of the guys seemed to be talking to the camera for a youtube video. I really enjoy solitude when I'm out shooting, so the endless conversations from them was a small nuisance. Anyways, the light kept getting better and better as the sun dipped towards the horizon. Just before the light disappeared behind that cloud, I was able to capture this incredible shot as the aspens were absolutely glowing. I love the challenge this time of year trying to pick the perfect time to see the aspens and try to make great images while the color is here for a short amount of time. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for reading and your comments

When one witnesses a so fantastic sunset the only feeling that it is possible to feel is fear. Fear to fail the shoot. I hope I got it anyway, and, despite the low resolution, the small silhouette close to the sun, is a surfer, incredible. I think every photographer has a place that often eludes their vision or expectation. For whatever reason since 2011 the conditions at the Firefalls have prevented me from getting a decent image. After seeing some incredible shots this year I reluctantly went back to Horsetail for my fourth time in 8 years.

This year I found redemption with my expectations completely blown out of the water. Strong Northeast winds created an incredible scene with Horsetail Falls and snow blowing off the top of El Capitan filling the air with glowing mist.

My wife and youngest son were there to witness this special event with me. That was the best!

Great shooting alongside John Fox @omnitrigger and many other great photographers.

Thans for looking!

Week 3 of my 52 Week Project. : MY HAPPY PLACE.

__________________

My happy place is.. the lake near my home. However, a photo for this subject was a very hard decision! There are quite a few local places that I consider to be my "happy place". More recently this has become my new happy place.. (or at least in my top 3)!

HOWEVER, PHOTOGRAPHY ITSELF = IS MY HAPPY PLACE!!

On my way home from physical therapy today, (which is going VERY WELL if you're wondering), I asked Juan to stop by the park so I could hop out really quick and take some photos.

& I have to say, photography... taking photos on a very nice day & running back to the car KNOWING that I just took some amazing photos- with a huge smile on my face- jumping up and down, kissing Juan on the cheek and thanking him a hundred times for stopping at the perfect time.. and helping me to capture these great photos ... = That has become my new "favorite drug" or natural high.

I cannot even explain the feeling I get when I take a photo and even more so when I know I just captured some incredible shots... It's actually BETTER than any drug ever was for me.

..You should have seen me today as I was taking the photos and after I was done.. I'm still beaming.

There really is no better feeling in the world , than TAKING A GREAT PHOTO!

>>>Btw: These are frozen water drops on the grass by the lake. I am in love with this.. (I have a few more that I'm going to look thru and possibly post in the future.. I have a TON of incredible images from today.. so I'll be posting them in the near future! Keep an eye out.

Hope everyone has a beautiful and blessed day! Stay positive, everything will be okay!

I fought the devil and I'll live to tell

I fought the devil and I'll live to tell

I fought the devil and I'll live to tell

I fought the devil and I'll live to tell

What a terrifying place

Left alone here in my head

Remember every last mistake

I can't forgive, I can't forget

But if I face my darkest days

Will I finally make my peace?

With the past I buried deep inside

The darkest part of me

No, I will not be defined

By the life I left behind

You're gonna see

I'd rather die on my feet, than live on my knees

I'm face to face with the devil

I am not afraid

My life is worth the struggle

My scars are my war-paint

Face to face with the devil

Pray, it's not too late

My past will not define me

I'm face to face

I fought the devil and I'll live to tell

I fought the devil and I'll live to tell

No one ever held my hand

Always me against the world

At war with monsters in my head

Kept digging down 'til I hit gold

I'm not ashamed of who I was

You'll never take this fight from me

You'll see

I'd rather die on my feet, than live on my knees

I'm face to face with the devil

I am not afraid

My life is worth the struggle

My scars are my war-paint

Face to face with the devil

Pray, it's not too late

My past will not define me

I'm face to face

I fought the devil and I'll live to tell

I fought the devil and I'll live to tell

I fought the devil and I'll live to tell

I fought the devil and I'll live to tell

I was in such a dark place

Something had to change

So I faced it

I'm face to face with the devil

I am not afraid

My life is worth the struggle

My scars are my war-paint

Face to face with the devil

Pray, it's not too late

My past will not define me

I'm face to face

Back in April, some buddies of mine and I began to plan a September trip to Glacier National Park. We were hoping against hope that we would have decent weather and that the Going To The Sun Road would remain open until it's official closing date of September 22. We were also hoping that it would be cold enough for the leaves to change before we left.

After four months of waiting, we arrived in Great Falls and drove into the park last Thursday (Sept 18). The air was very hazy and the light was horrible as we left the airport. Our spirits began to sink a bit as we had to pass on shooting Two Medicine Lake as it was far too hazy to photograph. We also passed hundreds of acres of trees that had died, apparently due to some horrible disease.

But as we entered the park and drove around to St Mary Lake, everything changed. For four days we shot in some of the most epic conditions I have ever seen. As we traveled throughout the park, we discovered that we had timed the Fall colors perfectly as virtually all the deciduous trees had changed at once due to the recent cold snap the week before where parts of the park were covered in 8 inches of September snow. And best of all, Going To The Sun Highway remained opened all the way through the weekend. Our rented Yukon was one of the last vehicles down the Western side of the park on Sunday night as we left for McDonald Lodge after a long night of shooting the Milky Way in Logan Pass.

The shot above was taken after waking at 4:15 AM on Friday morning for a quick scramble up the mountainside for one of the most amazing sunrises I've ever seen, followed by an ginormous breakfast at Many Glacier Lodge. After "brunch" we set off for a hike of roughly 12 miles (round trip) up the Grinnell Glacier Trail. The entire trail was lit up by yellow and red/orange leaves as we worked our way up past Lake Josephine and finally past Grinnell. By the time we were on our way back down, we met up with our second bear of the day and had a lively discussion to decide whether to stay for possible sunset color over the lake or to leave early to avoid being eaten. This bracketed shot was taken shortly after we decided to stick it out and after the afore mentioned bear moved on in his search for berries. It was handheld in low light as we were wasting no time getting back down with the last third of our hike predicted to be in complete darkness.

Glacier National Park is beautiful during any time of year, but I was completely unprepared for how stunning it looked in late September. As the sun came out on Saturday, the colors exploded around us between the bright yellow leaves, brilliant blue skies, deep green firs and pines, and the stately red on the vintage buses that moved the guests through the park.

I have so much more to write about regarding our time there, but in the mean time, please feel free to check out some incredible shots by my photo compadres, namely Todd Hurley , Tom Bricker , Don Sullivan and Jeff Krause .

I recently spent two weeks in Maui with my twin, adult sons ("Think Property Brothers" fun kind of guys). As a treat, I funded half of my son Logan's powered hang glider hour long ride over Maui's Hana Coast. These are but a few of the incredible shots taken on that ride. If you ever have the chance, this is quite an adventure. My son is still raving about the experience!!

Look up Armin Engert at Hang Gliding Maui 572-6557 . He is a highly skilled pilot with a stellar safety record. His objective is to introduce you to the sport and instruct you in proper flight techniques. You will receive your initial flight time through Armin which can use toward your certification. If you are an aviation buff, you will love the instruction above the gorgeous Maui shores.

Was thrilled to get this hawk land right in front of my dining room doors. Notice the straight across tail, with slight notch, which helps distinguish it from the larger Cooper's hawk, which has a well rounded tail. He pulled up one claw .. probably to keep warm from the icy branch. (We had freezing rain last night! ) Shot through the window. Large for detail.

NOTE: Please check out my contact Ric McArthur. He has posted the most incredible shot of a Pine Martin. Really superb!

PS: sorry for yet another comet post!

Comet NeoWise setting over the foggy hills in Marin, CA, just after sunset. I had been planning this shot ever since I figured that the comet would be visible in NW sky after sunset in CA. I also came across other incredible shots in meantime, which gave me even more motivation to go out and shoot. After a couple of tries, I managed to get just the right amount of fog on the hills to create this dreamy setting. Staying up late on mountain, after park closure time, did get me a citation (I happened to be parked too close to the park rangers!), but well worth it!

The lomo glass is capable of taking some incredible shots. It is a learning process with the camera as it does tend to over expose at times.

Mother Nature decided to give me a birthday gift in the form of some great lightning bolts! Excellent storm last night, it stayed off to the South and West with little to no rain in our area. This was shot facing Southwestish, the lights in the background are from the 3 prisons (Arizona State, US Penitentiary Tucson, and the Federal Correctional Institution for Women.

I'd love to tell you this was one incredible shot but I can't do that and be honest. This is actually a stack of 3 shots in a row at 17, 27, and 36 seconds in BULB mode that I combined in GIMP which is a lot like Photoshop but is Open Source.

Unbelievable night. Hung out at this spot on Vekol Road from around 9pm to midnight…being patient, hoping bolts would come over the mountains…and they did. This isn’t even one of the more incredible shots, but I looooove the symmetry and the mountain peppering going on. Was actually tough to choose one to post because, well, they were all spectacular...and I like to stick to one or two a day :)

Always fun when patience works out...I rarely am able to sit still and watch lightning blasting just down the road and instead wait, and hope it starts dropping on our side of the mountains. Luckily for us, it worked out last night! Also enjoyed the company of John Sirlin and Greg Breneman out there, which is nice because of it being such a sketchy, dark place

Definitely best day of Monsoon 2019 so far.

This is one of our babies. It fledged about a month ago and I have just recently found them again. This is a night shoot the park staff was kind enough to allow me to shoot with a friend. We donated our work to the park for educational purposes showcasing what is in the park at any given time. I did not choose this frame as my friend choose this guy facing us with full flaps open. Incredible shot!! I choose two of our Red-tailed Hawks to offer.

Last Thursday afternoon I took an hour or so away from work to sit in the pouring rain with a few of my favorite avian subjects. I've been really loving shooting in more challenging weather conditions lately. Not that I DONT love the golden light of a sunny morning, but there's some really incredible shots to be had during adverse weather as well. Here's on from that afternoon of a Red-headed Woodpecker.
