These marmosets have beautiful colouring on their fur coat with white faces, black tufts on their ears and grey and ochre patterned coats and a long tail. Their teeth are shaped incisors that allow them to make holes in tree branches to find sap and insects. They do look cute but they will bite. Like most marmosets they normally give birth to twins and triplets. The father will carry his young marmosets for the first two weeks, after the two weeks they are carried around by other members of the group who take turn looking after them. By the time they reach 6 months they are weaned and independent and capable or foraging for their own food.
As we are now in autumn even the marmosets are feeling a little cold so the keepers put red heat lamps on for them
The rock hyrax (Procavia capensis) or rock badger, is also called the Cape hyrax and commonly referred to in South African English as the dassie. The rock hyrax is found across Africa and the Middle East, in habitats with rock crevices in which to escape from predators. They have a prominent pair of long, pointed tusk-like upper incisors which are reminiscent of the elephant, to which the hyrax is distantly related.

As well as taking photos of these marmosets I often stand back and just study them, which I enjoy. I have watched previous parents groom their young and clean their teeth. This is one of the most important jobs that they do. By grooming they get rid of any parasites or dead skin. Social grooming is also as important as it’s a form of social contact. The common marmoset has a V shaped mandible with incisors that are nearly extend level with the canines. These teeth are very sharp and can cause quite a lot of damage if you are bitten.
Dawa came in for an oral exam. She had very mild tartar build up on her teeth. I extracted a very lose upper incisor.

Spreading Smiles Dental cleaning cost | Acharyadental
Justin* walked into Acharya Dental with a question. Why, he asked, does my smile does not look right? He had been to a dentist recently who gave him a composite bonded filling, but he was still not happy. After doing a Smile Analysis we found that Justin had ended up with a smile curve that was in reverse, i.e the 2 central incisors were shorter than the lateral incisors. The colour of his bonded teeth were also mismatched . We went to work and gave Justin a very pleasing smile with his teeth in a golden proportion where the central incisors were longer and in line with his canines. Ceramic veneers were placed to give him self confidence. Now, Justin has a smile for everyone!

...deer have no upper front incisors...so ""opening" the apple is achieved by an almost downward motion of the bottom jaw while the apple is held against the palate. Individual deer have been figuring this out for centuries by watching their elders.

These marmosets are gum-feeding specialists. They don't wait for gum-producing trees to exude gum but use their specially adapted chisel-like incisors to make small holes in the bark. This stimulates the flow of gum and enables them to have a year round supply. Their claw-like nails allow them to cling vertically to the trunks as they jump between trees.

I had a very tasty meatball subway earlier, however, I encountered a very hard chip about mid-way through my meal.
I later found this in my mouth, and the place on my lower incisor where it should be!
Day 4 - Spotted this massive male early in the morning (around 5.30 am) and then we waited for about 3 hours for for him to wake up. Clicked this picture when he rolled onto his back in his sleep and we could see his massive incisors
