Nam Mô A Di Đà Phật
The Buddha Said — Alan Watts ft. Akira The Don
And so, that is a nice little tangle
If I put this in the language
Of oriental philosophy and religion
It would be something like this
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
One who abandons that desire attains nirvana
Which is supreme peace liberation
Nirvana means, in Sanskrit blow out
That is, exhale the breath exhale the breath
The opposite, dеsire, is to breathe in
Now, if you brеathe in, and hold it
You lose your breath
But if you breathe out, it comes back to you
It comes back to you
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
So the principle here is if you want life
Don't cling to it let go
Let go
But the problem is if I desire not to desire
Is that not already desire?
How can I desire not to desire?
How can I surrender myself
When myself is precisely an urge to hold on
To cling?
To cling to life, to continue to survive
To survive to survive
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
I can see rationally
That by clinging to myself
I may strangle myself
I may be like a person who has a bad habit
As a result of which he is committing suicide
And he knows that but can't give it up
Because the means of death are so sweet
Incense sticks !! Prayer time at the Buddha Temple

A rather unusual photo for me. I'm usually never that close when I take photos of people. But here the people didn't even care about me and the camera, they were focused on lighting the incense sticks.
soundtrack: Take Five
(This jazz standard got its title from the 5⁄4 beat / meter, which is unusual especially for jazz songs)

I let those five incense sticks burn down rather than reek to get a flame image for Crazy Tuesday - theme of April 27, 2021: On Fire
I had to be fast(ish) especially because the further the incense sticks burned the more they moved during the take (they virtually tipped over), creating rather blurry images
😄 HaPpY CrAzY Tuesday 😄 , everyone
(very busy day - so I will catch up later in the evening)

Ich habe fünf Räucherstäbchen abbrennen lassen (statt sie 'rauchen' zu lassen) für ein Flammenbild für Crazy Tuesday - Thema am 27. April 2021: On Fire / in Flammen
Macro Mondays theme Smoke
One tough challenge and just as difficult having to choose a final image. I could have chosen some attractive swirly ones but somehow this one kept pulling me back, I just liked the simplicity of it, so this one it is 😊
Happy Macro Mondays! 😄
I played with some smoke images at the weekend for a project. It was a very relaxing exercise watching the patterns unfurl through the viewfinder and interesting too to hear what different people saw in the shapes. As an added bonus our bedroom smelt pretty nice from the incense ;)
The Kuan Yin Temple that graced Penang since 1928. It was built by the early immigrant settlers from China, in honour of the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, Kuan Yin.
Worshippers are burning incense sticks for good luck and blessings.
I took the photo in 1983 with my analog Nikon FE camera and 35mm slide film, and later digitalised by using a Nikon Coolscan 4000D film scanner.

Thanks a lot to all my flickr member friends for visiting, All faves and comments are much appreciated!
another one from my incense cone shoot. The editing possibilities are endless on these but im really pleased i stopped at this
Macro Mondays 'smell' theme.
The swirling smoke of a lavender incense stick, lit by off camera flash through a snoot at 1/128 power. The smoke colours were added in processing.
The image measures approx 2" in width
i had already posted this earlier ... but i found a better image by inverting it and making it golden,
My first session with smoke photography. There are so many ways to edit this but i settled on the fire colour... as they say no smoke without fire
One of the restored statues of Buddha at Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya, Thailand. Looks like people still pray to it as there are incense sticks at the base of the statue.
At a Balinese shrine at the base of a tree in Kuta. A black and white chequered "kain poleng" cloth that is symbolic of Bali can be seen behind the statue while some of those "canang sari" offerings are placed in front of him. Not too sure if it was inappropriate for me to take this pic but I think that I did ask for permission.
Incense sticks in all sizes, with and without decoration have been seen very often in Penang (1983).
The photo was taken in 1983 with my analog Nikon FE camera and 35mm slide film, and now scanned with Nikon Coolscan 4000D film scanner.

A small gold tea light candle holder laying on its side with the base facing away from the camera..
It has 11 sides making it a Hendecagon.
Inside are 4 short incense sticks burning making plenty of smoke. It is in a dark room and lit from the side with an L.E.D torch. The side of the tea light holder, on the top part, appear to have 'bubble' like texture on the surface. This is an illusion, looking through the holes on this side at the holes on the other side give this appearance.
The last smoke piece I completed. I use to call this my insomnia art because I would work on these when I had trouble sleeping. The edits would take 15 - 30 minutes if they were successful and the project didn't crash.
Made from a single plume of smoke. This is the most effort I have put into a smoke circle. I paid special attention to not blowing out the highlights in the original photo. Only Saturation and hue were adjusted. The project had 186 layers in 28 groups. The document was 7.89 gigs and the Photoshop doc was 231 gigs. Original scaled down to post.

Wong Tai Sin Temple, Hong Kong. Edited, processed and cropped for a cinematic look.

Have to bore you with more pics of these Balinese offerings as I took a whole series of them. Taken outside the Petitenget temple in Seminyak.
This is a retread of a similar posting awhile back. Two photos combined in photoshop. The biggest hurtle was the initial capture. I had to use a lot of gaffers tape and cardboard to direct light and minimize spill onto the bottle. Initial shots were taken a few years ago but the two bottles where combined in photoshop last week. I have a backlog of thousands of shots. Every now and then I go back and complete the process.
