The inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States took place on January 20, 2021, before noon, marking the commencement of the four-year term of Joe Biden as president and Kamala Harris as vice president. The inaugural ceremony took place on the West Front of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. and was the 59th presidential inauguration. Biden took the presidential oath of office, before which Harris took the vice presidential oath of office.
It was quite the spectacle. Lots of roads were closed down. Most of the captial was fenced in. There was troops and law enforcement everywhere. Fema was there. It felt very surreal. I almost felt I was getting a glimpse of the future under martial law. There was also some checkpoints where you had to be searched in order to cross. It felt like a very dreadful day. As I only saw one person excited for the victory. Everyone turned and looked at them as to say without saying what are you excited for?

Experimenting with Film Simulations for different effects, straight out of camera. This one is Eterna, with "soft color and rich shadow tone.” Brightened it up a little after protecting highlights too much in camera.
In honor of Uncle Sam & Uncle Joe, each both beautiful & mature, tested and resolute.

This is such an amazing day. I am watching the inauguration on TV at my mother-in-law's house in my pajamas and it's just amazing. I have to admit, I don't remember ANY other inauguration since I've been alive (for whatever reason)...but this one clearly is special. To all of my friends in DC--have a great day, I am so envious!

I hope to catch up with you later. Thank you for visiting.

April 2009 update: If you're coming here from some crazy right-wing rant-a-thon Web site, you should know that ALL CROWDS leave messes behind. This mess was cleaned up within hours of the inauguration. If you want to play political games, try visiting the mall after one of the anti-abortion marches has gone through; they never clean up their bottles, signs or other trash, and it infects our city for days afterward. Make your idiotic point with someone else's photos.

The Mall yesterday morning was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life.
The Mall yesterday afternoon was perhaps the ugliest. What the hell is wrong with us, America? Barack Obama just told us to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off. What about that speech made you think it was ok to leave massive, massive amounts of newspaper, food, blankets, bottles and flags on the Mall?
There were a handful of people stopping to collect some of the newspapers that blanketed the ground, but the wind picked up for a while and it just seemed so hopeless. I want to walk down and see what it looks like this morning, but I don't think I'm ready to have my heart broken yet today.
Inauguration Day - January 20, 2009 - Congratulations to our new President!
Hope everybody is having a good one - will catch up with you ASAP!
Saw this photo of 'about to be President 'Donald Trump in a store window at the 'One Mile Mall' in Las Vegas, NV. I thought it was quite funny! It was printed onto a T-shirt from a poster.
The store that featured it called itself the 'Inaugural Store' and they had many posters of Donal Trump, mostly regular shots.
HWW! The world watches as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris get sworn is as the 46th President and Vice-President of the USA this morning.

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti recently converted the COVID-19 Testing Site to a Vaccine Super Site at Dodger's Stadium. Los Angeles behind other cities, as the city is in Phase I Tier 1 helping only frontline healthcare workers and turning away anyone who isn't. Other cities have begun Phase I Tier 2, vaccinating seniors 65+ and frontline healthcare workers. The Super Site in Los Angeles is known to be the largest COVID-19 vaccine site in the United States. The location was a coronavirus testing site weeks prior, until the FDA issued a warning to the city stating that their testing kits were faulty.
Thousands sit in hours of traffic for their scheduled COVID-19 vaccine appointments on Joe Biden's Inauguration Day, two weeks after the Capitol Riots on January 6. Coronavirus cases reach an all-time high, with the United States surpassing 3 million cases and 400,000 deaths. Scientists detected the new and more deadly coronavirus variant lingering in Southern California, which was discovered in the U.K. weeks prior. Johnson & Johnson is finalizing on their COVID-19 vaccine, which differs from Moderna and Pfizer because it only requires one dose.
As Joe Biden took the oath of office in the morning, he hopes to get 100,000 Americans vaccinated by the first 100 days of office and reopen America.

It’s finally here, the 20th January, 2021 and the Inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th President (of the often Dis-United States of America!)
Political cartoon by Dave Brown for the Independent Newspaper in the United Kingdom (although we are a little Dis-United at times as well!)

About this photo:
This photo was taken near Port d'Alcudia as massive storm clouds blew over the sea.
This photo was originally titled "Light ahead", but I created a new title which seems more appropriately aligned with current events. We do not know what the future holds, but today we will see a change.
This photo is a single exposure HDR, I have also added gradient overlays to enhance the color of the sea. The shape of the clouds was dramatized with Photoshop's high pass filter.
This photo was also taken on the same day
Other notes:
It is a big day. I will be watching the presidential inauguration during what little free time I have. So, I may be slow at visiting your photostreams today.
Congratulations to our new president
