Making use of the learning space requires some improvisation such as standing up and holding papers above my head!

Dogs are allowed on CTA buses, but only in carriers. This little guy was better behaved than most of the stroller set!

An improvised umbrella stand, total cost (excluding the flash) about $25. It's made up of a $10 reflective-grey-inside umbrella we bought in Singapore, a $11 tripod (which is really not much good for a camera) I bought in Malaysia (it only weighs 400g though) and a quick clamp (pack of 2: $10).
The outer side of the umbrella is blue, hence the blue cast on the transmitted light. I'm not sure if the fact that it's blue is a problem. It does soak up a bit of light though.
The flash is mounted in the tripod cold-shoe it came with. At the moment the umbrella (with its handle removed) is just clamped onto the underside of the tripof head. If I was keen, I could knock up a bracket.
