Improved Health of Women and Adolescent Girls in Situations of Vulnerability (IHWAG) Project Review of Best Practices in Guyana.
The purpose of this mission to Guyana is with the primary objective of gathering audiovisual materials that highlight best practices and demonstrate the positive impact of the IHWAG Project in Guyana. This is in line with the visibility and advocacy objectives of the Project as it nears its conclusion in 2025.
This review of best practices is a joint effort between the PAHO Guyana Country Office, the IHWAG Project Management Team, the PAHO Communications Department (CMU), and the Latin American Center for Perinatology, Women and Reproductive Health (CLP)
The IHWAG Project would like to showcase the achievements made particularly in Georgetown and in Region 9 with respect to the implementation of the SIP+. In consultation with national counterparts, the collection of a three-to-four-minute story-based video, photographs, and testimonies are key to achieving this objective. It is anticipated that these materials will be included in the final communications product of the Project, a digital logbook.
This shot is the post-processed version of the previous one. The global edit was lowering the exposure and the local edit was to the mountains where exposure was lowered, the contrast was increased, and color temperature was turned up.
For the improvement of my second shot, I think it was similar to the first whereas the setting was changed based off of the advice that I had received within the previous feedback module. For this picture, my classmates had advised me that though the light seems like it is radiating atop the can, that the background could come off as being too distracting and it felt as though too much was going on. Due to this, I would like to think that I had improved this shot greatly by taking out the light in the background, changing the background entirely to a spot where there was very scarce light, and the background was plain and simple. I also think I improved the clearness of the photo. Within my feedback, it had been brought to my attention that though the blur was a good idea, it had bought out the sidewalk too much instead of the actual object in which I was trying to capture. Based on this feedback, for this week I had decided to try to get both the background and the main object in focus. This was done by making sure the camera was not simply focused on one object but instead focused on both. The message I thought these photos conveyed was about being left alone from a can due to the darkness of the photo and the setting of the pothole and gravel around the object. I think the most important or best quality criteria from modules 2 and 4 which this particular picture conveys is the use of patterns. Patterns can be made out of anything and everything within the world. In this particular picture, patterns were created by the gravel arrangement. Engaging in this particular activity had affect my perception of the world greatly. For example, due to this activity, I had come to realize how many factors photographers must keep in mind when taking a picture in general. But this activity had also allowed me to realize how difficult it is taking a picture in a particular setting of nature since there are so many factors and things to decide and show. It had made also made me realize how interesting it is taking photos of object in the outdoors. While taking digital photos as a form or artistic expression, I think the greatest limitation was not being able to convey as much emotion as I would have liked to. Another limitation was trying to find the right angle and the right lighting while playing around with the pictures and settings on my phone. Some assets that I found was the use of the location and the background to help tell a story. Though emotion was not truly conveyed, a story was based on the location of the road and the setting of the night sky.
