Common grackle impression. Topaz Impression is a software "filter" that renders photos in various painting and drawing styles. This is my way of enjoying painting in acrylic without actually getting out the paints. Topaz Impression can be fully automated, but I prefer to take control of the various parameters (paint volume, stroke length, etc) to make it art.
Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, Ypres.
Unveiled on 24 July 1927 it is inscribed by the names of 54,896 Commonwealth soldiers who died in the Ypres Salient but whose bodies have never been identified or found, except those of New Zealand and Newfoundland, who are instead honoured on separate memorials. As the monument was too small to contain all the names as originally planned, the Battle of Langemark (15 August 1917) was chosen as an arbitrary cut-off point and the names of 34,984 UK missing after this date were inscribed on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing instead.

De Menenpoort, onthuld op 24 juli 1927 bevat de namen van 54 896 Gemenebestsoldaten die in de Ieperboog zijn gesneuveld en waarvan geen lichamelijk overschot gevonden is of geïdentificeerd zijn, buiten deze uit Nieuw-Zeeland en Newfoundland die op aparte monumenten geëerd worden. Daar het monument te klein was om alle namen op aan te brengen zoals origineel gepland, werd besloten de Slag van Langemark (15 augustus 1917) aan te nemen als scheidingspunt. De namen van 34 984 Britse vermisten na deze datum worden vermeld op het Tyne Cot Memorial in plaats van op de Menenpoort.

Most of my photographs are of things. Some last longer on the streets and some vanish in a day or two, but all are physical objects of one kind or another.
This one is a shot of the absence of a physical object. Only the tip remains at the very top. The rest, as you can see ,is gone. It is then, an impression. It is a photo impression in the most literal sense of the word. It is photo impressionism! The crushed metal can which was once there and impressed into the asphalt is gone, but it's remains are still visible as a ghost or a shadow, or an impression. It is like a footprint left in the sand or a fingerprint left on a glass or other object. In a police show on T.V. this could be an important piece of evidence. Had a crime been committed using the crushed can and had the impression of the can been left on the body but the can itself was mussing, the only link would be this impression. I think things like this are fascinating only I can't quite figure out why.
