The importance of pasture to horses.
Horses are grazing animals and most horses meet their nutritional needs from cool-season grass pasture or hay.
Forages are an important part of the equine diet and more than 80% of horses have some pasture access. There are many benefits for horses grazing pasture compared to eating hay in confinement, including the reduction of unwanted behaviors such as bedding and manure eating, cribbing and chewing wood. (this info was published in an article from the University of Minnesota )
the importance of a single detail in comparison with the rest. As a narrative device, the ability to vary the distance between the camera and the object may be a small thing indeed, but it makes for a notable difference between cinema and oral or written narrative, in which the distance between language and image is always the same.

The Western Wall, also known as the "Wailing Wall" or the "Kotel," is one of the most significant religious and historical sites in Jerusalem, Israel. It holds deep spiritual and emotional importance for Jews worldwide, and it has also become a symbol of the complex and often contentious nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The Western Wall is a remnant of the ancient retaining wall that once surrounded the Second Temple, which was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. After the temple's destruction, the Western Wall became the closest accessible site for Jewish prayer and pilgrimage. For centuries, Jews from around the world have come to this sacred site to pray, lament the destruction of the temple, and express their connection to Jewish heritage.
The name "Wailing Wall" originates from the 19th and early 20th centuries when Jews would gather at the site to mourn the destruction of the temple and express their sorrow through prayers and tears. The term "Kotel" means "wall" in Hebrew and has become a popular and endearing name for the site.
Over time, the Western Wall has evolved into a focal point of religious and nationalist tensions between Israelis and Palestinians. The site is located in the Old City of Jerusalem, which is also part of the contested area between Israel and Palestine. Its significance to both Jewish and Muslim communities has led to disputes and occasional clashes.
The Western Wall plaza is divided into two sections: one for men and the other for women, following Orthodox Jewish tradition. The prayers and rituals conducted here are a mix of individual devotion, communal worship, and celebrations during religious holidays.
In addition to its religious importance, the Western Wall draws millions of tourists and visitors from various backgrounds each year, offering them a glimpse into the rich history and cultural diversity of Jerusalem.
Despite the ongoing complexities surrounding the Western Wall and its geopolitical context, it remains an essential and cherished place for Jewish people, symbolizing resilience, faith, and the connection to their shared heritage.
Besides its importance as a fragrance, lavender is considered calming to those with nervous tension. Lavender oil is sometimes rubbed into the temples for head pain, added to bath water for an anxiety-reducing bath, or put on a cotton ball and placed inside a pillowcase to treat insomnia. Lavender oil also works as an antiseptic making it a natural treatment option for skin disorders (sourced from HowStuffWorks).

nope, you do not have to visit your optometrician ....! It's just a traditional house on a steeply inclined street in Bergen, Norway :)
This church is Reykjavík’s oldest. It holds great historical importance as both the center of Iceland’s Lutheran faith and the birthplace of independence.
This is an unassuming city church completed in 1796. It stands beside Parliament House in the city’s main square. It was at the National Cathedral that the Lutheran church officially endorsed Icelandic sovereignty and independence in 1845, although the modern Republic of Iceland was not founded until 1944.
The National Cathedral looks out upon Austurvöllur, Reykjavík’s oldest square.
St. Andrew's Church, located on Andriivsky Uzvoz in Kyiv, was built according to the project of the architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli in the Baroque style. It is a monument of architecture and monumental painting of the 18th century. of world importance, is part of the National Reserve "Sofia Kyivska". The church is included in the preliminary list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

"The Happy Family" is a renowned painting created by the Dutch artist Jan Steen. Painted during the 17th century, Steen was known for his ability to capture scenes of everyday life with a touch of humor and wit. "The Happy Family" exemplifies his style and showcases his talent for storytelling within a single image.
In this painting, Steen depicts a bustling household filled with various members of a family engaged in different activities. The composition is lively and intricate, presenting a chaotic yet harmonious scene. At the center of the composition, a jovial couple sits at a table, surrounded by their children and other relatives. The scene is filled with laughter, lively conversation, and playful interactions. The family members engage in various activities, such as eating, drinking, playing music, and engaging in games. Steen's use of vibrant colors and intricate brushwork further enhances the joyful atmosphere of the painting.

Steen's portrayal of the diverse characters and their interactions reflects the complexities and dynamics of family life. Through his portrayal, he highlights both the humorous and challenging aspects of domesticity.

It continues to be appreciated for its rich storytelling, vibrant imagery, and its ability to evoke a range of emotions from viewers. The painting stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of art that celebrates the joys and challenges of family life.
When we understand the importance of living together without judgement we will have arrived at a significantly better place than we are today. It is easy to be judgmental, but what purpose does it have? If we live together in peace and allow one another to live the way we wish as long as it does not physically harm anyone, that is what we should be aiming for. Compassion, love, tolerance, understanding, acceptance, respect, equality, diversity and decency will take you a long way. Steer your children away from hate, greed, selfishness and power, this type of behavior only causes pain and sadness to so many, so let's embrace our differences. This should happen globally with all nationalities being involved. So let's get started now!

This fourth instar larva (ca. 8-10 mm) perfectly matches the colour of its food plant (Common Sorrel). The tiny white warts that cover its body (visible if you view large), which only appear at the 4th instar stage, match the spots on the underside of the leaf. Presumably these add to its ability to evade any potential predator looking for a quick snack! (0606).

It's not simple to say
That most days I don't recognize me
That these shoes and this apron
That place and its patrons
Have taken more than I gave them
It's not easy to know
I'm not anything like I used be, although it's true
I was never attention's sweet center
I still remember that girl
She's imperfect, but she tries
She is good, but she lies
She is hard on herself
She is broken and won't ask for help
She is messy, but she's kind
She is lonely most of the time
She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie
She is gone, but she used to be mine
It's not what I asked for
Sometimes life just slips in through a back door
And carves out a person and makes you believe it's all true
And now I've got you
And you're not what I asked for
If I'm honest, I know I would give it all back
For a chance to start over and rewrite an ending or two
For the girl that I knew
Who'll be reckless, just enough
Who'll get hurt, but who learns how to toughen up
When she's bruised and gets used by a man who can't love
And then she'll get stuck
And be scared of the life that's inside her
Growing stronger each day 'til it finally reminds her
To fight just a little, to bring back the fire in her eyes
That's been gone, but used to be mine
Used to be mine
She is messy, but she's kind
She is lonely most of the time
She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie
She is gone, but she used to be mine...

World Animal Day takes place on October 4 every year to draw the attention of governments and citizens to the importance of respecting animal life. Whether it's pets, wild animals or even farm animals, animals deserve better treatment.
Protecting wild animals, for example, means respecting their natural places of life. Respecting domestic animals means providing them with a loving living environment and making a commitment not to abandon them.
Finally, improving the living and slaughtering conditions of farm animals is a major challenge to be taken up at the present time.
If the date of October 4 was chosen to celebrate the animals, it is no coincidence. Indeed, October 4 is the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi (1182-1226), who throughout his life manifested a great love for animals.
He claimed that every living creature on earth, whether it was an insect, a bird or a pet, deserved respect. This is why Saint Francis of Assisi is considered a great defender of the animal cause and was instituted Patron Saint of environmentalists by Pope John Paul II.

We had come to Finnish Lapland after Norway and it was the second night when the sun went down after long nightless night period. I stand on the slopes of the Pallas fells and enjoy the play of colors. By the way, the Pallas fells have the cleanest air in the world, according to research. Maybe that's why I want to come to these fells every year and hope that they keep me young when I get to breathe their clean air and climb their slopes.

Even before COVID-19 companies have been taking time away from families! Are we not aware of the importance of the family base which exudes love, security, basic education, the time needed to listen, discuss and help? Money is not everything, it is a necessity but not God! Our children are losing a great deal in today's world, we have to come up with better solutions. Everyone from top to bottom should be involved in the successful work of a firm, all working equally, not just the chosen few who have been hired to protect those on top we have to pay attention to all workers whose family is suffering from lack of attention. It is time to put all of our families in front let's all work together to make it happen!

I didn’t know the importance of this tower as we cruised past it on the Danube. I DID already know that not everything along the river was beautiful….“The Vukovar water tower is a water tower in the Croatian city of Vukovar. It is one of the most famous symbols of Vukovar and the suffering of the city in the Battle of Vukovar and the Croatian War of Independence, when the water tower and the city itself were largely destroyed by Yugoslav forces. Until the war, the top of the tower was home to a restaurant with a view over Vukovar, Danube and surrounding vineyards.
During the Battle of Vukovar, the water tower was one of the most frequent targets of artillery. It was hit more than 600 times during the siege.
Today, it has been converted into a museum with a restaurant. Traces of the war are still evident. Since 10 March 2021 it has been a Tower Member of the World Federation of Great Towers.” One more touching story to add:
“The flag at the Vukovar Water Tower was the most frequent target of the aggressors during the siege of the city, but it proudly waved every morning thanks to Croatian defenders Ivica Ivanika and Hrvoje Džalta. Under the cover of night, they raised the flag again, giving the people of Vukovar hope and a sign that the defense of the city has not yet given way.”
The Sumela Monastery, which stands on the foot of a steep cliff facing the Altındere Valley in the region of Maçka in Trabzon Province, Turkey, is popularly known as “Meyem Ana” (The Virgin Mary). The building complex is nearly 300 meters high and was built following the tradition of monasteries that were located outside the cities in forests near cave and source of water. The elevation of the Monastery is about 1350 meters.
The Monastery, founded in honor of the Virgin Mary, took the name of “Sumela” which derives from “Melas,” meaning black. Although it is thought that it has taken this name from the mountains, the Karadağlar (Black Mountains), on which it stands, it could also be associated with the black color of the icon of the Virgin Mary.
According to tradition, the Monastery was founded by two priests called Barnabas and Sophronius who came from Athens during the reign of the Emperor Theodousius I (AD 375 - 395). Then, in the 6th century, it was restored by the General Belisarius at the behest the Emperor Justinian who wanted it to be enlarged and restored.
The Monastery reached its final, present form in the 13th century. It gained importance during the reign of Alexios III (1349 - 1390) of the Comnenian Empire of Trabzon, which had been established in 1204. Its income was assured from imperial funds. During the time of Manuel III, son of Alexios III, and the reigns of later princes, Sumela gained further wealth from new imperial grants.
During the 18th century, many parts of the Monastery were restored and the walls were decorated with frescoes. In the 19th century, the Monastery took on an impressive appearance with the addition of larger buildings. This was the Monastery’s heyday and it attracted many foreign travelers who mentioned it in their writings.
The large building with a balcony on the front part of the cliff was used for the monks’ cells and as a guesthouse, it dates to 1860.

Nobility and royalty from all around must have been bowled over by this importance. King Henry VIII's courtyard, the one who needed a new church.
A three exposure HDR captured handheld on continuous shoot. Don't think my hands would have been as steady if I had paid the entrance fee. Won the tickets on an autism awareness lucky dip.
... I am letting the horror in. Just for a short while and always able to stop the invasion. I don't want to be overwhelmed and lose control. But, on the other hand, I can't afford not to feel the pain inside and outside of myself. I wouldn't become and stay a "Mensch" if my character armour was impenetrable. I am already built like a tank. I am fighting to remain vulnerable. Fighting against this temptation of locking myself up. Listening to the pain. Leica M8, Voigtlander CS 2.2/50 at F8.
I had ten minutes to kill waiting for a train at Cannon street station, so I walked up an alley and was met by this scene and knew I had to capture it.
Life and death are of supreme importance. Time swiftly passes by and opportunity is lost. Each of us should strive to awaken. Awaken! Take heed, do not squander your life.”

Santa Maria da Feira is located nearby Porto, capital of the North of Portugal. This region was where Portugal was founded in the 12th century and the old towns of Santa Maria da Feira and Porto are beautiful examples of Medieval architecture. The Santa Maria da Feira Castle dates back to the 11th century and is the prominent landmark of this small city. The Castle of Santa Maria da Feira is one of Portugal”s most remarkable monuments as it reflects the diversity of defensive measures employed between the 11th and 16th centuries. In addition to its military importance, one should also acknowledge its political and cultural significance, as it proved crucial in the victory at the Battle of São Mamede in 1128.
Santa Maria da Feira castle is located just south of Porto - 33km. It’s on a hilltop looking down on the city, and is a grand example of the defense monuments built in the Middle Ages. The Santa Maria da Feira Castle dates back to the 11th century and is the prominent landmark of this small city. A really beautiful castle with great militar defenses. An example of portuguese architecture though the times. Photo of the subterranean staircase with embrasures in the Feira Castle.
The Importance of Farmland in Cornwall
More than 70% of Cornwall’s land is dedicated to agriculture, making it a vital part of the region’s economy and ecosystem. The fertile soil and favorable climate allow for the cultivation of a wide variety of crops, including fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Additionally, Cornwall is known for its dairy farming, producing high-quality milk and cheese.
The abundance of farmland in Cornwall not only provides us with nutritious food but also contributes to the preservation of the region’s natural resources. Sustainable farming practices, such as organic farming and agroforestry, can help enhance soil quality, reduce pollution, and support wildlife habitats. By working collaboratively with farmers, we can ensure that nature thrives alongside agricultural activities.
Exploring Cornwall’s Agricultural Landscape
Cornwall is home to expansive farmlands, with picturesque countryside vistas that attract visitors from around the world. The largest county in the South West, Devon, has around 72.4 percent of its land dedicated to commercial farm holdings, with a majority of it consisting of grasslands. This creates a lush and vibrant landscape that adds to Cornwall’s allure as a tourism hotspot.

The Intha people are the principal ethnic group at Inle Lake. They build floating gardens by collecting weeds from the lake, weaving them together to form beds and anchoring them to the lake bottom with bamboo poles. After placing mud from the lake bottom on the weed beds, vegetables are grown. Three Intha men are seen in the early morning here with garden material collected from the lake. Floating gardens are seen beyond.
The Meteora is a rock formation in the northwestern Greece, hosting one of the most prominent complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, viewed locally as second in importance only to Mount Athos. Twenty-four monasteries were established atop the giant natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area, mainly from the second half of the 14th century under the local rule of Simeon Uroš. Six of these are still active and open to visitors. This picture shows the monasteries of Rousánou (front) and Agios Stéphanos (back) in the evening light.

This work is dedicated to women and their uphill battles of juggling work and family life. I address the importance of accepting motherhood for our children, hoping that our society will change and allow women more time with their children after birth. Starting with breastfeeding, which is on a 3-hour basis, and creates a special lifetime bond between mother and child. Promoting a strong educational and loving environment for children to grow in. Mothers are the family base, very much in tune with their children, and are always working for the best for their children. This takes time, and the time should be available, especially if we want peace, diversity, and acceptance in our world.
Mothers are often the family base, tuned in, and working to achieve the best for their children. This endeavor demands time which is too often is in short supply due to the uphill battle of juggling work and family life.
My late husband’s deep love and respect for his mother grew into love, respect, belief in, and support, for myself and our four daughters. His belief in us empowered our lives as he valued our dreams and endeavors. I wish that all men and partners had this positive and supportive attitude, as it makes life easier for the whole family.
A mother’s role is important in their children's lives. In order to bring up healthy and well-balanced children, sufficient time is required to be given to the children, time should be made available at birth and through an extended time. Child development psychologists state that the first 3-5 years of a child's life are the most important. Sadly, many employers do not see things that way.
In order to provide mothers with time to nurture their family, with the understanding that it is in the best interest of young children, the government needs to change the concept of Stay-At-Home-Mothers, making it acceptable for mothers to look after their children full-time with the help of family benefits and tax credits.
Thoughtful employers can make a difference in the possibilities for mothers. Flexible work schedules, providing more time for maternity leave is an example seen throughout Europe. Employers could make a leave of absence possible, providing a young mother with time for her children. Women should without exception be paid equally and provided with the same benefits as men who are doing the same work. If women have been invaluable workers, why treat them with anything other than respect and understanding?
Something is very wrong here, and this needs to change. Often the $ £ is more important than human life today. If we all work together, helping one another, we can get closer to equality. I know that total equality does not work, but equality within reason, most certainly does. Providing a strong educational and loving environment for children to grow up in takes tremendous effort and time. If we value peace, diversity and acceptance, we should work together to provide this time.
I often choose to use bright and strong colours for my work to make my message stronger and to elaborate on my concern for what is happening in today’s world. I always try to give a positive message, believing that I have a better chance of a positive reaction.

Stepwells in Rajasthan, India, boasts a rich history dating back over a thousand years. Initially built to harvest rainwater and provide access to groundwater, they evolved into architectural marvels and communal spaces.
Constructed by digging into the earth, these structures were adorned with intricate carvings, serving as both utilitarian and aesthetic symbols. Stepwells facilitated water storage in arid regions, crucial for agriculture, drinking, and rituals. They also served as meeting points, offering respite from the scorching desert heat.
Over time, step-wells declined with modernization, but their cultural significance endures, inspiring art, literature, and conservation efforts. Today, they stand as poignant reminders of India’s ingenuity in water management and architectural prowess ...

“The soil under the grass is dreaming of a young forest, and under the pavement the soil is dreaming of grass.”
~ Wendell Berry
Grasses have various roles to play in the ecosystem, from preserving forests to reclaiming degraded land. They prevent soil erosion and landslides and protect the alluvial topsoil. Besides grasses slow down the runoff during heavy rains and floods which helps the earth to absorb water and improve groundwater table and create the conditions for seeds to germinate and shrubs/trees to grow. For rejuvenation of land all we have to do is let grass grow, the rest would be taken over by nature. Apart from that the importance of grasses lies in their role as an important food source. Up to 70 percent of the world's agricultural land is given to crop grasses, and more than 50 percent of the world's calories come from grasses, particularly the cereals.

A bird of forest streams, the Louisiana Waterthrush looks more like a thrush or sparrow than the warbler it is.
This species is of high conservation importance because of its relatively small breeding range, low overall density, and dependence on clear forest streams both on its breeding and tropical wintering grounds.
"The central issue is not man's decision to extend formal recognition to God, to furnish God with a certificate that He exists, but the realization of our importance to God's design; not to prove that God is alive, but to prove that man is not dead."
--Abraham Joshua Heschel, (as quoted in Edward K. Kaplan, Spiritual Radical: Abraham Joshua Heschel in America, 1940-1972)
The Castle of Eger gained its historical importance and became famous in 1552, when Captain István Dobó together with a small number of Hungarian defenders repelled the siege of the giant Turkish army. Nowadays the Castle is one of the main attractions of Eger, offering several exhibitions and programs for the interested visitors (virtual tour). But what do we know about the past of the walls we can see today? Here is their history in a nutshell.
In the 11th century, the first king of Hungary, Saint István established the first ten bishoprics of the country and made Eger a seat of one. A cathedral was built on the hill of the present castle, and the town was located around it. Although the cathedral has been ruined, we can see its remainings in the castle.
The castle was probably built in the second half of the 13th century, after the Mongolo-Tartarian attacks, which destroyed the former Felsőtárkány fortress of the bishop. The Castle of Eger used to be a so-called knight castle with high but thin walls. Therefore, with the appearance of artillery weapons, it became obsolete. As a solution, in the 16th century, they started to modernise it according to the plans of Alessandro Vedani.
In 1548, great strategist István Dobó was assigned captain. Preparing for a possible Turkish attack, he continued to strengthen the castle and enlarged the number of military equipment.
The siege of the Turks began in September 1552. The Ottoman Army of Suleiman the Magnificent seemed to be unstoppable before. It was divided in three parts, arriving from three different directions, each taking the attacked castles one after the other. These three parts of the army united at Eger, altogether counting about 60 000 soldiers. On the other hand, the number of Hungarian defenders was only 2000. (We can even read their names in the museum of the castle.) Therefore, it is almost unbelievable that they could last for 38 days, and finally, repulse the Turkish enemy, who by that time was suffering from diseases and the cold autumn weather. According to a legend, there were rumours in the Turkish Army about Hungarians drinking the blood of bulls which gave them superhuman power. This was in fact, the famous red wine of Eger, called bikavér (bull’s blood). The women of Eger played an important role in the defence, as they were also fighting heroically. The excellent painter Bertalan Székely commemorated them with his work entitled Egri nők (Women of Eger).
Repelling the siege of the thirty times larger army is considered as one of the most important victories in Hungary. Its significance was that the Ottoman Army and its campaign was stopped at Eger and could not reach the almost unfortified northern regions and their valuable mines.
Already a few months after the triumph, poet Sebestyén Lantos Tinódi wrote a detailed song (450 stanzas!) about the siege. Thanks to him, the persistence of the warriors of Eger seminated all over Europe.
The Longmen Grottoes (aka Longmen Caves) is a UNESCO–listed world heritage site which has thousands of statues of Buddha carved in caves excavated from its surrounding cliffs. Unfortunately, the site was subjected to significant vandalism and senseless destruction at several points in its history. Major artifacts were removed by Western collectors and souvenir hunters during the early 20th century and by the Japanese during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The heads of many statues were also destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.
The Chinese government has since recognized the cultural and tourist importance of the Longmen Grottoes and has been active engaged in the preservation and restoration of the site. For more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longmen_Grottoes
