For much of my youth, I seriously thought I was going to become a grain farmer. Whenever my dad would go into the field to hay/plant, I would go with him. I would play with toy tractors/implements in the sandbox and in the yard all spring, summer and fall.

I got out the old toys, they haven't been played with in probably well over 13 years, they've seen better days as they are not in the best shape anymore and some of the toys are broken.

I decided to play around in the snow, I call this "Harvest season", I got out one of my old toy Case IH toy tractors, and my Allis Chalmers combine. Oddly enough, the toy tractor is an exact replica of the tractor I use for haying each summer at the farm.

Oh how I miss my childhood.. a simpler time where a toy tractor could bring you hours of joy!

I wonder if they still make toys out of metal and rubber to this very day or if theyre all made out of plastic now.. blech!

LUC worked as lead consultants and landscape architects through the detailed design and implementation stages of the restoration of Bushey Rose Garden. It was designed by Thomas Mawson in 1912 for Sir Hubert von Herkomer, a successful Victorian artist, and was originally part of the garden of Lululaund, Herkomer’s house.

Detailed investigations allowed a comprehensive historically accurate restoration that included the refurbishment of the Rose Temple, original tufa stone fountain, the pergola, Grade II listed Summer house, and original brick paving.

Bespoke restoration commissions include benches copied from Mawson’s designs, Rose pillars and a bronze plaque which was replicated from historic photographs, the original having been stolen in 1967. The Cloister, which was part of Herkomers Art School has been reconfigured into a performance space.

Additions to the garden include the Potting Shed, a gardener’s store and facilities, a small yard, new gates and railings and new paths.

The project was opened to much acclaim with David Mawson, one of Thomas Mawson’s grandsons in attendance.

Bushey Rose Garden is open all year round with free admission and thousands of visitors have enjoyed the garden since it reopened in July 2010.

Yes. This is the trash can where Nick Montfort and Scott Rettberg were questioned about photographing. I was a little nervous about it before I came into the city, but it was all cool. Nobody even noticed me.

On Sunday, Nick and I read Implementation as part of the Provflux lectures at the Steelyard. We read from photos which were projected on the side of a truck. Hanna Wallach took this picture.

Midwest Veal has worked in conjunction with family farms to develop and implement husbandry practices which address public concerns regarding the welfare of farm animals.

Our Family Farmers new facilities are modeled after and exceed the European humanely raised standards.

We were one of the first companies to implement these new animal housing initiatives.

Young calves are protected from harsh weather elements yet given abundant space, freedom to move around, and provided dry and comfortable bedding. Calves are grouped among others of similar age, size and temperament yet groupings remain small enough to allow the farmer or veterinarian to address individual needs.

The calves’ diets consist of a wholesome combination of both milk and grain, completely free of any antibiotics or growth stimulants, formulated to meet all the nutritional needs of the animals at each stage of their growth.

Please meet Jaimini.

I spent last week among parents who have an autistic child and who were gathered to learn a method to develop their special child out of its condition. Jaimini is one of these parents, and her challenged son is Rahil.

When I asked her one evening if she was game for a short portrait session the following day, she readily agreed. Although my habit of taking close shots keeps you from seeing it, the landscape behind was quite nice, with trees, snow, frozen pond and stone bridge.

Jaimini is Indian and lives in London, but was born in Africa. Until a few years ago, she regularly went to India, sometimes for the fun of being in some of its big cities, at other times for journeys of a more spiritual nature.

In my opinion, Jaimini is great-looking (and I had a hard time picking one shot for here), but Rahil points at the mole on his Mom’s upper lip and tells her she’s ugly :)

The program Jaimini is planning on implementing for her son calls for the help of volunteers, so if you live in the London area and you are interested in giving some of your time, I will do my best to put you in contact.

Jaimini, I’m glad to include you as #38 in my 100 strangers project. Best wishes for Rahil.
