Immunization for Diphtheria, Tetanus & Pertussis..!!!
When we talk about terms like DIPHTHERIA, TETANUS, and PERTUSSIS, we should be aware of the severity of the problems and proper guidance to overcome them.
1. DIPHTHERIA causes a dense covering at the end of the throat.
2. TETANUS causes severe tightening of the muscles, usually all over the body, causing severe pain.
3. PERTUSSIS causes coughing so severe that it is hard for infants to eat, drink, or breathe.
Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine (DTaP) can actually help prevent these disorders. Most of the children who are properly vaccinated with DTaP will be guarded throughout their childhood. Many a time it is found that children get the disease if vaccination stopped. Children should get a proper 5 doses of DTaP vaccine, one dose at each of the given ages 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 15-18 months and 4-6 years.

In response to this outbreak, UNICEF, through the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), is supporting the Government of Guinea in its response to the epidemic by launching a series of 3 national immunization campaigns.
UNICEF, WHO and GAVI went to Siguiri on 8 September to join the Ministry of Health in launching the first round of National Polio Immunization Campaign (Round 0) in Guinea. The first round (Round 0) of this immunization campaign targets children aged 0-59 months, an estimated 582,159 children in the Siguiri health district, as well as in the 4 neighboring districts of Siguiri, including 3 in the Kankan region (Mandiana, Kouroussa, Kankan) and 1 district in the Faranah region (Dinguiraye).
In Siguiri, Dr. Mamadou Péthé Diallo, Minister of Health, and UNICEF symbolically vaccinated a few children in front of communities and the media, officially launching the national immunization campaigns and urging parents to have their children immunized against polio, while reminding them that the vaccine is free, safe and effective.
UNICEF in Guinea participates in the implementation of immunization campaigns, supports routine immunization activities and health services, provides vaccines and logistical support to ensure that vaccines reach all children, even in the most remote areas, and supports awareness raising and community mobilization.
The second round (Round 1) is scheduled for September 22-25, 2023 and will include all 38 health districts in Guinea. The third round (Round 2) is scheduled for October 20-23, 2023, and will also include all 38 health districts in Guinea. To address the intense circulation of the virus in the West Africa region, the next two rounds of this polio immunization campaign will be synchronized with other countries in the sub-region, particularly Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, and Mali, to ensure adequate coverage of populations living at the borders of these countries.
