Meet Ms. Chip and the babies. Chip's story goes like this. In May, he (thought she was a he) showed up on my porch.( Over the past ten years, I've had many chippies but none quite like her.) We became fast friends and she even took peanuts from my hand. In July, she didn't show for days. One day, she just "popped "up out of the ground. She had made her burrow two feet from my porch. She hoarded and went in and out 25 times a day. I read all I could about chipmunks and their lives and habits. They're pretty amazing little animals. The first week in August...she "disappeared". Her hole was plugged and she wasn't around for a couple weeks. I was certain something had happened to her. I was sad. One day, she appeared on my porch looking for water. (I kept her bowl filled, just in case). She stood up and I saw nipples...Chip was a momma. That's where she'd been. I waited and waited. Two weeks ago, She popped up and I saw two little heads peeking out. The next day, there were 4! She let them look out, but they weren't allowed to leave. Now, she's teaching them how to forage. Little chippies running all over the place. What a treat this has been.

Whilst out walking today in Priddy in Somerset my girlfriend almost stood on this Slow Worm. It was so well camouflaged on this gravel road. Not the safest location to warm itself up in the early afternoon sun.

As slow worms go this one was huge! Biggest Ive ever seen. I took a few photos of it and soon it slithered off into the undergrowth.

Sweetness came in the mail today.

Svetlana Perić, gave me The GIFT.

I was happy just like a child under a Christmas tree.

Thanks to her I'll make a million new "SOOH" shots (Straight Out of the Heart ) :)

..... You have a place in my heart forever Svetlana, have I told you lately that :) ?

“Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. "Pooh?" he whispered.

"Yes, Piglet?"

"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's hand. "I just wanted to be sure of you.”

My Dearest Flickr Friends:

I was brought up in another era ~ one of respect and gratitude. Thank you notes are still one of my favorite forms of appreciation. Some of my Flickr postings fly around the world with a calligraphed envelope and pretty stamp.

My hope is that this art doesn't die. I wish I could send each and every one of you a personalized piece of snail mail!

One of my closest "local" friends is amazed by my flickr community! He's always telling me to "do more" with my art. I think about that and am not sure how I could reach as many beautiful souls as I do with this method of communication.

I just want to thank all of you for being here for me. These quotations spoke deeply.

“Gratitude is the most exquisite form of courtesy.” ~ Jacques Maritain ~

“The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche ~

“Silent gratitude isn't very much to anyone.” ~ Gertrude Stein ~

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” ~ John Fitzgerald Kennedy ~

and finally, this next quotation may seem negative, but it also balances the scale on how I feel about true giving.

“Some people have a knack of putting upon you gifts of no real value, to engage you to substantial gratitude. We thank them for nothing.” ~ Charles Lamb ~

He knows what I like! ;-)

A new James Avery charm (it's a Texas flag, for my foreign friends) and a big box of Godiva chocolates!

Yep, this is turning out to be a wonderful birthday!

Social Security and Medicare be damned!

No wait! I'm just kidding about that! ;-)

How ya doin? Haven’t seen or heard from you for awhile. Hope all is well on your end. You missed a lot since the last time we saw you. Lessee: we’ve all graduated high school and college, I’m married now (and so is your only daughter), and you got three beautiful grandkids. I’m sure I’m missing something. I guess I’ll see you when I see you. We’re doin’ fine. Life is good. I really hope it’s good for you too.

Dunno why I posted this. I was a less than a year old when my mom took this shot. It's a direct scan and I dumped it on a frame. I guess I look at my daughter today and ask, "How could anyone just up and walk away? No contact. Nothing. For years." Oh well. His loss. Besides, I'm not here to judge. I wonder what kinda conversation I'll have with Miss Sydney when she asks about her grandpa?

This is a four-leaf clover.

I wish I hadn't found it.

I don't need the luck.

I have loving family and friends, good food to eat, and a nice place to sleep.

I left it for someone more deserving.

Right now, I'm the luckiest boy in the world.
