The Queen Anne style stateroom of B-60 looking through to the Empire style B-64 room on Titanic during her fitting-out stage. (Harland and Wolff, Belfast, Ireland, March 1912).

The RMS Titanic had 333 first-class rooms ranging in price depending on size, location and style. A one way first-class basic cabin could range from £30 (£3,630/$4,620USD today) to a Parlour Suite ticket costing up to £870 or £109,000/$138,680USD in today's (2023) money. Stateroom B-60 was located on B-Deck port-side and shared a water closet and bathroom with B-58. The room had a 120cm (4ft) wide small double bed and a single bed. B-60 for Titanic's maiden voyage was occupied by former Montreal hockey player Quigg Edmond Baxter the son of banker James Baxter. His mother Hélène de Lanaudière-Chaput Baxter and sister Mary Hélène "Suzette" Baxter Douglas occupied the adjoining B-58 suite who all boarded the Titanic at Cherbourg, France. Quigg's fiancée, Belgian cabaret singer Berthe Antonine Mayné stayed in stateroom C-90 who he secretly paid for a ticket so she could accompany him to New York under the name Madame De Villiers who he intended to marry once back in Montreal.

On the night of the 14th of April 1912, just after midnight Quigg Baxter noticed that the ship was not moving. Upon leaving his room, he questioned Captain Edward Smith who was just passing through the hallway why the ship had stopped. Quigg was informed by Captain Smith to leave his room along with his family and head for the Boat Deck. Quigg escorted his mother, sister and fiancée to Lifeboat No.6 where he saw them off after giving them his silver flask of brandy. After the sinking, Quigg's body was not recovered and a family memorial with his name was later constructed in the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery, Montreal.

The Titanic was designed to be the most modern ocean liner constructed featuring many amenities that were unprecedented on passenger ships for the time. All first-class cabins had steward call buttons, electric heaters, electric outlets for reading lamps, fans and electric bed warmers on request. Every day fresh flowers such as pink carnations, white roses and daffodils were arranged in vases for the first class rooms. The staterooms were opulently decorated in eleven different period styles including Adam, Louis Quatorze, Rococo, Regency, Empire, Georgian, Dutch, Old Dutch, Jacobean and Italian Renaissance. The furniture, light fixtures, upholstery and woodworking were accurately recreated by the master craftsmen of Harland and Wolff and some outside contractors. The Dutch company H.P. Mutters & Zoon craftsmen handcrafted the paneling and furniture for stateroom B-60.

The low pressure system which underwent what is known as "explosive cyclogenesis" - or less formally became a "weather bomb" - has brought strong wind to Iceland and to the United Kingdom and Ireland, with particularly high waves on the open sea. The waves were described as "phenomenal" in the shipping forecast for the Rockall area.

The low pressure system, known in some countries as Alexandra, has also brought strong wind to northern areas of mainland Europe.
