Re-posting on December 9, 2008. I generally don't re-post but have made an exception here. Yesterday this photo became my first ever to surpass the 1,000 views mark. Although I know many of my flickr contacts have numerous photos with over 1,000 views, this is a milestone for me. Thanks to all who viewed and commented.

This is the same girl as in my "Sunshine" image from Sri Lanka. What a smile!

Here's my first attempt at photographing a person in black and white.

I had to have a picture of her in this cute little beret!

Everyone thinks it's a boy, but actually it's a girl :) I just saw her on the street. She was so cute I couldn't stop myself but keep photographing her :)

...of a soft (but tough)-hearted soul called Roney.

If you’re a father or a mother, then you know how demanding bringing up your own children can be. You know how much of yourself is devoted to each of your kin and you also know how the bonds between you grow stronger for each year that passes........

If you have ever brought up other people’s children, then you also know how demanding they can be and the size of your devotion needed to foster each one of them. You realize how delicate and difficult relationships are to establish, but once established, all the more rewarding.

To lose either is equivalent to a disaster..........

After many years of bringing up my own kids and other people’s too, then fifteen more spent fostering street children, I can comfortably testify that each year devoted to a street child's life is equivalent to five years spent caring for one's own child.

To lose Roney and Claudiney after so many years is devastating!

I’m really grateful that I had the privilege of sharing quality time with such special souls, but extremely saddened by their tragic departure. I will always treasure those fond memories.........

Beautiful Susan is getting married. She hired Jamie Fender to shoot her wedding. Being the gutty thinkoutsidethebox lady that Jamie is she invited Susan to the Arkansas Strobist meet up and I was able to capture this shot.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

This smile I found in a refugeecamp - and I love the energy that surrounds this man and the way he is giving despite his circumstances.
