I see it every time and I love it. It is so true.. where you feel good, you're at home.. so.

And I always feel good in Rotterdam. 😉

The quote is from Desiderius Erasmus, who was born in Rotterdam around 1466/1467.

Erasmus was a priest, theologian, writer, philosopher and humanist.

He traveled through Europe and wrote several books, one of them, Lof der Zotheid (The praise of Folly) is very famous. In this book he let the Folly 'praise' the foolishness of people and the world.

Do you know how hard it is to write on a marshmallow? Especially a sticky, gourmet marshmallow?

I almost had some other words to say.

Seriously, I always try to talk in a kind manner -- I'm not naturally a yeller. When students get in trouble, I lower my voice and talk to them in a calm manner about their choices. In my opinion, it helps to build better relationships.

Because Rotterdam was once the largest port in the world (between 1962 and 2004) but now still of Europe, we always got many nationalities on our city floor.

With the coming of 'guest workers' in the '50s and '60s from various countries; the people from Suriname and the Dutch Antilles and later migrants have turned Rotterdam into a melting pot of all sorts of nationalities.

This has the great benefit that we can buy delicious food everywhere.

Our language is influenced by the other languages. I'm a bit of a 'language purist' so sometimes I don't like how things develop. But on the other hand: language is always changing, over the years or centuries. And that is interesting, too.

So Ramsey Nasr, born in Rotterdam, has made a poem with a mix of many languages, as it could be spoken in 2059.

It is a mix of Surinamese and Antillian slang, Arab, English and Rotterdams and on various spots in the city, you will find parts of this poem.

Ramsey made this poem about an older, real, purebred Rotterdam person, but than talking in the Rotterdam language of the future (2059).

And it is really so funny to read out loud.

I made it for 50 straight days. I can't believe that. I am the girl that usually always gives up. I never give myself credit for anything, I get discouraged and I quit. I apply that philosophy to many aspects of my life.

This has been an interesting 50 days. I started doing something I have always loved and got a little validation for it as well. I see things in a totally new light. I have gotten more comfortable in front of the camera. I still haven't tackled the dreaded full-body shot, but I have seen, through daily self-portraits, that I am not a leper by any means. There are things about myself that I love. Sure, there are things about myself that I despise as well. But all in all, these past 50 days have been a very positive experience. I look forward to sharing the next 50 days, and the next and the next.

although i wholeheartedly choose the mountains over the ocean, i still seek water for a little clarity and focus. i think it’s the sound of moving water that helps me clear my mind.

One of my Meet-Up groups went out on pontoon boat in Elkhorn Slough to see the Otters, Seals, and Shore birds.

We were out in the slough for 2 hours. It got a bit foggy toward the end, but it wasn't cold thankfully.

At the end of the day myself and two friends found this beach to shoot the sunset. The sun set right here. This was the best light and color of the sunset. I'm so glad we were here in time for this. After the sun set there was no color at all...the day faded into night. With it we headed north for home.
