Kitsune is 21 months old, and her pet parents’ first dog. “She is special to me, not only because she is our first dog, but because she is a reminder of my husband,” writes her dog mom, Kimmie. “My husband is in Iraq, serving with the US Army on his first deployment. Having Kitsune by my side, not only reminds me of my husband, but she puts a smile on my face every day.”
George was adopted on the day he was scheduled to be put to sleep at a shelter. “His face is very animated and his eyes are beautiful, always piercing, excited and happy,” says his dog mom, Kristin. “He looks at me when I talk to him, and it feels like he is really trying to understand what I am telling him. Super smart little guy.”

Lily is a 5-year-old “patchwork” Catahoula. “She was about 4 months old in this picture and is showing her genuine love for people,” says her dog dad, Michael. “Unlike her cousin and best friend, [fellow contest entrant] Beauregard, Lily was well behaved from day one and wanted to be with people at all times. She would just look at us with those big blue eyes, and how could we not want her close, too!”
P.J., a 9-year-old Poodle mix, was brought to a shelter as a puppy after being found abandoned on a remote hillside. His pet parent, Tamzin, says P.J. “always has a smile on his face, no matter what’s going on. He has helped me foster and raise many critters plus two-legged children, all with patience and compassion." Even as a senior, P.J. can still run circles around his younger pawls.
