Seven-year-old Cleo was rescued two years ago by her dog dad, Scott. She had been used as a breeder dog and lived alone in a yard with little interaction. Scott is proud to report that Cleo passed the therapy dog international certification program – which usually takes two to three hours – in just 20 minutes, and she has worked with Scott as a hospital’s pet therapy volunteer, mainly on the Oncology/Hospice floor, for more than a year.

"She has become the hospital favorite and has been part of a memorial for patients that have passed," Scott said. In this picture, Cleo is having a long visit with a patient that was about to be moved to a hospice, where Cleo continued to visit him. “Complete strangers that encounter her are hugging her within seconds,” Scott said.

I can never repay the happiness and joy you bring into my life, Baby. You are truly a God sent. I've learned so much from you for the past year that you've become a member of our family. I learn from you:

1) Don't hold grudge. We might be mad at each other at the moment, but we'll forgive and forget the next minute.

2) Always happy to see the people/animal we love and not afraid to show it.

3) Be affectionate to the ones we love. Scratches, massages, touches, or any form of physical contact is nurturing and comforting.

4) Live in the NOW. We never know if we'll live another day. Enjoy today to it's fullest.

5) Give trust, space, and faith that we'll grow together and understand each other better. Giving up on our relationship has never been an option.

6) Always be yourself, no matter how silly we are, or how our appearance may appear to be, be completely OK with ourselves.

These are just some that I can think of on top of my head.

I love you, Baby. You light up my life.

P.S. What have you learned from your beloved companions?

You can tell he's going to be really vicious one day. I mean, just look at the way he demands a belly rub!

Reggie is a 4-year-old Doberman rescued from a puppy mill. Her dog mom, Janet, found her when a friend said a puppy-mill operator needed homes for more than 40 dogs before she went to prison on unrelated charges. “One happened to be a 2-year-old, red breeding bitch named Regina,” Janet says. “We went to see her and it was all over. She was shy and so skinny, but wanted to make friends. I decided to take her, of course!” Regina now lives the good life on Janet’s farm in Kentucky. “She has four large beds and a doggie door, so she is free to come in and out as she pleases,” Janet says. “We have owned four other Dobermans, but she is the most affectionate of the bunch. She even lays on her back and grabs my leg with her two front paws so I can rub her belly!”
