Bleaching : ammoniac solution until the image disappears

Toning : tea and coffee

Scan : Epson Perfection V330 Photo

The result of the tannic acid toning is a burnt umber, which the Epson V330 scanner is unable to render accurately!

Tea or coffee toning gives a warm dominant to the whites of the print

Van Dyke Brown is an alternative photographic process, using 3 chemicals products, depending on paper and toning, images can run the range of black, sepia, and beautiful rich browns.

Here all stock solutions are home made.

A suitable paper is coated with a solution containing ferric ammonium citrate, silver nitrate and tartaric acid, using a large brush.

After coating, the sensitized paper is exposed by contact printing to a negative under an UVA light source.

Then the paper is developed into fraiche water, fixed, washed and dried.

“We are made of stories. I mean, scientists say that human beings are made of atoms, but a little bird told me that we are also made of stories.” - Eduardo Galeano

On my Birds Diary Moleskine !!! : )

Hope is the thing with feathers

That perches in the soul,

And sings the tune--without the words,

And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;

And sore must be the storm

That could abash the little bird

That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,

And on the strangest sea;

Yet, never, in extremity,

It asked a crumb of me.
