Illuminated pianos on the wall, made of chicken wire glass and pilings recovered from the old Transbay Terminal. Here is a scene from the wet and drizzly, first night of "Let's Glow SF", the largest holiday art projection event of it's kind in the United States. Organized by the Downtown SF Partnership, the event brings numerous artists to project their artwork on six downtown SF landmarks: the Ferry Building, Hobart Building, Landing at Leidesdorff, One Bush Plaza, the Pacific Coast Stock Exchange, and Salesforce Tower. The event runs from December 1st to December 10th, 5pm-10pm.

Union Square / Market Street Station: public art
San Francisco
Lucy in the Sky' by Erwin Redl (b. Austria 1963, resides in the U.S.A.)
"The artwork by Erwin Redl for the Union Square/Market Street Station titled Lucy in the Sky is an illuminated installation comprised of hundreds of translucent 10 x 10 inch light panels, each containing an array of color LEDs. The light panels are suspended along the entire length of the concourse level corridor’s ceiling in a diamond-shaped pattern and are computer programmed to slowly change color and display simple patterns and animations."

This week the APEC conference was held in San Francisco (I guess Biden was in town). As a result, the city was spruced up and way too many police were brought in. Back during Pride month, an art installation by Illuminate had been set up, which shined a rainbow of lasers down Market Street towards Twin Peaks. They decided to dust off the installation for the conference, but instead of a rainbow, the lights continually changed patterns and colors. It is a very interesting sight and makes for some good photo opportunities. On Wednesday I threw my compact camera in my bag before heading to my office. It also happened to rain a little that day, so when I went walking down Market Street after work, there were plenty of puddles to catch some reflections of the lasers! As you can see in the last photo, there were plenty of other photographers out that night, too. These were actually shot handheld, just with a high ISO, as I didn’t bring my tripod with me that day.
