Mind flayers, also known as illithids, and sometimes referred to as ghaik by the githyanki, were sadistic aberrations feared by sentient creatures on many worlds across the multiverse due to their powerful psionic abilities. From their twisted lairs deep in the Underdark, these alien entities sought to expand their dominion over all other lifeforms, controlling their minds to use them as obedient thralls. They consumed their victims' very personality by extracting and devouring their brains while they were still alive

And as always, this head is EvoX mapped so you can use all of your favorite tattoos, cosmetics and other Bakes on Mesh addons!

The Disturbed Event is open until the 29th, so go and get the StarSpawn Cthulhu head, ☆HERE☆!

Relatively lightweight and reasonably armed, "Illithid" drones used when enemy need to be destroyed quickly, silently and in any environment.

A smaller successor to Typhon unmanned tank, Illithid uses advantages of synthetic limbs in agility and sneak, while sacrificing defenses and heavy armament. Also it is much cheaper than its bigger brother, being generally smaller and having only 4 limbs instead of (hell knows how many) of Typhon.

P.S. Victim is wearing an Asian hat not because i'm racist or hateful against other people, but just because it looks cool and I wanted diversity in background minifigs.

P.P.S. Actually, I need your opinion. Do I need to specify in my posts that none of the actions depicted in my builds should be persevered as heroic neither are those actions reflect my opinion on people of other race, etc...? I mean, it is obvious for me, that violence in my builds are there for the purpose of dark satire and criticism on militarism, but dunno if the audience sees it in that way. Let me know what you think.

"O gathered brethren of the cosmos! As the stars align, we beckon beyond the heavens. Hear our humble call, Old Ones! Let the Lord Cthulhu awaken from his dreaming! Iä! Iä!"

Entry for the Bio-Cup 2019 preliminary round, for the theme "scary monsters." More photos in the album.

Embervale Guard Captain’s Log, Arcane Date-Time 140014B VLN 1376

Mage-Governor Alrune allowed us Humans of Embervale to celebrate Lovers' Day.

The villagers worry about the love potions vendor she has invited though - an Illithid. She said there's no point in winning hearts when you can control minds.

I wanted to give her flowers, but now I'm not sure it's a good idea...

This is my Mixel Mind Flayer (or illithid) for the IRON BUILDER Mixels Contest. Was going to make it look like a Mixels package, but decided against it. I did use the D&D logo though and included a cute little "registered" emblem.

A bit about this build. He is based off of a sinister creature that resides in the Underdark from the D&D Forgotten Realms. I built him with legs, but I wanted to achieve a "robe" like look for him so the closer I bent the legs in it kind of looks like one body piece. I used pieces in six different Mixel packs to create this nasty. If I was asked to list those six I don't think I would be able to because I opened about 10 but kept them in separate piles.

Two more on the way (Hopefully)

Macro photography has been a favorite genre of mine for a long time. The ability to take even mundane subjects and turn them into alien, almost eldritch constructs or landscapes has always been fascinating to me. So, when I was lucky enough to win a copy of the Baldur's Gate 3 Collector's Edition, I knew I had to photograph the absolutely grotesque Mind Flayer figure that was included with it. Capturing such a horrifying creature, even in plastic miniature, was a lot of fun, and I hope it is something I will get to do more of in the future.

When elder mind flayers meet, their plans endanger the fabric of the universe.

I think this is really cool. But.... what is it? And who made it?

Maybe I should check the Living Brick blog. Iain should know....

So, what do LEGO brains look like?

The corpse of a dragon pupeteered by an Elder Brain, this leader of the Mind Flayers is an imposing foe!

A subterranean race of psychic monsters, the origin of the Illithids, or Mind Flayers, is unknown, often theorized to be an ancient lost race, or aliens, or creatures from th far future. Mind Flayers believe in their own superiority, and see others as food - true to their name, they devour the brains of their victims.

Some say they came from a future time long after humanity ceased to exist.

Unique among illithids, the Pale Flayer is a gifted leader of his kind, a prophet and seer, guiding his people into ever more diabolical schemes.

(Also, he replaced a few light bulbs in his house)

Two D&D minis and Shinryu from Final Fantasy. This one NEEDS to be restaged with a better background!

Mighty Mind Flayer Nobles, the Ulitharid caste is huge in physical size as well as psionic magic.

The very last "regular" set of Dungeons & Dragons MIniatures (the line is coming back, just in boxed sets) contained two unique characters with kind of a backstory to them: Kalliroth, Githyanki Pirate and C'Tallun, Astral Hunter. Kalliroth is a Githyanki who dual-wields silver swords, which means that at least one of them came from a deceased fellow Gith. C'Tallun is a Mind Flayer decked out in adventuring gear and wielding another silver sword, which he clearly got from a Githyanki. He has a scar over one eye, too. Wizards of the Coast refused to give them a full background, but dropped hints - Kalliroth hunts C'Tallun, and the two have a legendary rivalry. Perhaps the sword he used came from someone she knew?

Personally, I like to think of it as sort of a Moby Dick-style vendetta, although if I ever wrote a story about it I would probably make them team up for some reason.

Illithids are known for enthralling weak-minded beings to do their dirty work, and the slow, savage Quaggoths are perfect for this.

For a Mind Flayer to become a lich means rejection of the Elder Brain and everything Illithid society stands for. And yet, arcane immortality is just so tempting...

This is a page from The Rogues Gallery, a 1980 sourcebook for 1st Edition Dungeons and Dragons.

The monster portrayed is an Illithid -- or Mind Flayer as they are move commonly known.

Please allow me to quote from the Monstrous Compendium I happen to have on hand, it explains far better than I.

The illithid, or mind flayer, is an evil and feared creature of the Underdark; its powers are formidable and it feeds on the brains of any creature it encounters. Using arcane powers, it enslaves or destroys its foes, which include such powerful creatures as drow and kuotoa.Mind Flayers stand about 6 feet tall and have hideous mauve skin that glistens with slime. The head resembles an octopus, with white eyes (no pupils are evident) and four tentacles around its mouth, a round, many-toothed orifice like that of a lamprey. The creature has three reddish fingers and a thumb on each hand.

Illithids have infravision. They can communicate with any creatures via innate telepathy; they have no spoken language, although they often accompany their thoughts with hissing, and the eager lashing of their tentacles. Mind flayers dress in flowing robes, often with high, stiff collars, adorned with symbols of death and despair.

Erol Otus is fast becoming my favourite artist of old AD&D B&W illustrations. This one is really something. Some of you will note the similarity between said Illithid and Cthulhu. No mistake, they are from the same world, it would seem. Point and Case, Otus drew the illustrations for Deities & Demigods' entry on the Cthulhu Mythos (which appears only in 1st and 2nd Editions of the book, as it was later removed due to legal reasons, and then, after that still, renamed Legends and Lore to appease namby pamby whingers).

Max is in a real dilly of a pickle! Trapped in Evil Dr. Kalamarus's shark-shaped submarine, he has to deal with killer squids, electro-mantas, harpoon guns, and other things that turned out to be fun toys. The big thing about this set is that Dr. Kalamarus looks JUST LIKE A MIND FLAYER! A-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The mightiest of the Illithids, an ulitharid is a massive mind flayer that serves as a group's leader (though subservient to an Elder Brain if there is one). Superior to standard mind flayers in nearly every way, ulitharids lead their society, just as adept in combat as they are at mind games. Of course, they also require more brains for sustenance than their lesser brethren.

Hideous creatures created from stitched-together corpses, a Thoon Hulk is essentially Frankencthulhu.

These eldritch beings can paralyze your mind with a thought. They love the taste of brains.

Apparently it's possible for Mind Flayers to mess up making new Mind Flayers, and end up with hybrids (their usual way of reproduction involves implanted eggs and mutated host bodies). When mixed with lizardman DNA, though, these aberrations are somewhat accepted, often used as soldiers or guards. They also look like awesome, awesome Cthulhu spawn, and this mini can sub for Dragonlance's really silly neutered Mind Flayer variants.

A quick playmo mash-up that sprung to mind today. (I have never been involved in D&D, but I have seen plenty of these creatures in other works)

Thanks to RDL for the wonderful CB Deadly 60 octopus here :)

"Why the long face?" you ask him? Well, just look in that book for all the answers.

Minifigures Featured: Mind Flayer (Dungeons & Dragons), Rusty Dragon Inn Cabinet (Pathfinder), Book of the Damned (Pathfinder) #miniween2018 #theminifiguremilitia #drawlloween #drawlloween2018

Horrific constructs made by the Mind Flayers, they are often used as guards.

As powerful as they are, the Mind Flayers have always lacked raw muscle. And then this happened. Originally an offshot off the weird and confusing Thoon cult, Thoon Hulks became standard Mind Flayer constructs in 4th Edition. It's basically a Frankenthulhu - pieces from several Mind Flayer corpses plus a few various victims sewn together, powered by an eldritch and toxic formula, and with axes for hands, Thoon Hulks aren't in it for mind blasts and brain eating. It smashes enemies who made it past those other defenses.

And hey, FRANKENTHULHU

Frankencthulhu?

At the tail end of D&D's 3rd edition, they introduced the Cult of Thoon, a faction of Mind Flayers that worships and seeks out the mysterious concept of "Thoon." Whether Thoon exists or not is up for debate, but in their studies they discovered Quintessance, an equally-mysterious energy source. With Quintessence, they were able to create the first Thoon Hulks.

A Thoon Hulk fills in for the mInd Flayer's biggest weakness - lack of physical power. These ten-foot tall constructs are part Mind Flayer, part machine, and all violence. They will destroy anything in their way, either with their axe hands or by discharging some of the lethal radiation of Quintessence itself.

These lords of the Mind Flayers wield considerable psionic power!

Also known as the Ulitharid, Mind Flayer Nobles are gigantic, twice the size of their lesser kin. But rather than being giants of brawn, they have keen minds, and lead their people, second only to the eldritch Elder Brains. You really never want to mess with an Ulitharid if you can help it.

Deep within the pits of the Underdark, the Illithids conduct their vile experiments, secrets to all but those within their inner circle.

An excellent mind-flayer costume.

Not tied to any one particular adventure, Shuluth is an epic-tier Mind Flayer introduced as an example of how to make an epic, legendary bad guy in the rules. Since his introduction, he's made cameos around the D&D web site and in miniatures, but has yet ot really find a place in canonical lore. His story makes him less of a scheming mastermind and more of a survivor - Shuluth has defeated many, many teams of Illithid hunters, and has dedicated his life to taking down anybody who thinks they can kill a Mind Flayer.

Wow, he's actually kinda sympathetic. I'm sure that's a great comfort when he's eating somebody's brains.

The Mind Flayers reach across space and, it is rumored, across time as well.

Brilliant constructs made of scintillating light, loyal to the last command.
