A beautiful Saturday morning in Central Illinois showcases two vintage units sitting side by side at the Alliance Grain Company elevator in Gibson City Illinois. One being a former Canadian Pacific SW1200RS (LTEX 1206) built in 1958. The other being BLOL 7561, a GP9 built by New York Central in 1956 and later being rebuilt into a chop nose GP10 by Conrail and eventually being bought by Class 3 railroad of The Bloomer Line. Both units await their next assignment for the new week. Taken: 9-18-21
I’m not one for roster shots but this too cool to pass up, usually the Bloomer high hood GP9 sits at the elevator but it’s down for repairs..so it was nice shooting a sunny Bloomer GP10 even though it’s sitting.

This little guy was one of the reasons I was out past my bedtime this last Saturday night. He represents a threatened species, present only in limited and diminishing areas along this Mississippi river valley-- specifically, sand prairies where he can dig down to protect himself. He spends a good part of the year underground, with spring mating season being one of the few times when he can be seen in the open. A professor from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville was kind enough to let our photo group tag along as his students captured and microchipped individuals for study.

Mama is still bringing the twins to the yard for daily birdseed and corn clean-up duty. While they are not partial to me being outside with them, I do manage to sneak a few images from inside the house.
A fine TP&W trio bangs some cars around between Sheldon, Illinois and Effner, Indiana. It was most pleasant to see this clean trio on a fine afternoon.
