"Zurashi/Slipped" (2023) art installation by Chinami Ricketts (Japanese 1971) and Rowland Ricketts (American 1971) at the Ikat exhibit, Seattle Art Museum, May 2023.
I stop and visit this tree often. Its bark patterns remind me of ikat - strings or chains of diamond shapes, like moth wings in fiber, each textured with fine vertical lines and connected by bright green "kite tails" that appear to glow.
Japanese kimonos, made of ikat fabric, on display at the Seattle Art Museum's exhibit, "Ikat: A World of Compelling Cloth”.
This beautiful ikat patterned rebozo was part of an exhibit about resist dyeing techniques that was at the Museo Textil de Oaxaca. I can't find my notes from the exhibit but this looks like the kind of rebozos made in Santa Maria del Rio, San Luis Potosi.

Excerpt from the plaque:
Woman’s Ikat Robe (Chapan), Uzbekistan, late 19th century. Silk, ikat woven; printed cotton: Ikat is a Malay-Indonesian word given to fabrics from various cultural traditions that use the tie-dye method to produce blurry repeat designs. Known as abrband (‘cloud-tying’) in Uzbek culture, it is a revered traditional art form for creating hangings for the home as well as dazzling robes for both men and women. A great amount of water is used to create the characteristic watery effect of ikat, both for the cultivation of the silk and cotton and for the dyeing processes. Today, the increased scarcity of water in Central Asia threatens the region’s centuries-old tradition of ikat production.
The same stand selling ikat thread from Sololá. There is a back strap loomed rebozo for sale, and if you look carefully you'll see butterflies in the patterns, which are very complex.

One of my favorite morning meals: my homemade granola with yogurt, raspberries, flax seed meal and fresh grated black pepper. Espresso, of course! ;-)
I will post the recipe for the granola in the next day or so.
I love the mix of color, pattern, and texture in this living room. The angles of the floor lamp are a nice contrast to the ultra-feminine Klismos chair, too.

Shawl woven on backstrap loom with Ikat threads, typical of this town. New tiny style, worn on one shoulder as decoration even on hot days, so this new style is convenient to avoid the hot heavy garment that is oppressive in the heat.
