On our first evening at Glacier National Park, we noticed this spectacular cloud formation with a just the right amount of opening along the horizon. As the sun begin to break the through under the clouds, I selected this Indian paint brush bush as my foreground due to its brilliant colors. Besides getting the exposure correct, strong wind provided constant challenge to shoot the flowers.

When the right light and right location come together the results are nothing short of spectacular. While shooting at Beauty Creek we ran into cloud formations that produced some of the most brilliant light display of our trip to Canadian Rockies.

The Colosseum or Coliseum , also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre , is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. Built of concrete and sand, it is the largest amphitheatre ever built. The Colosseum is situated just east of the Roman Forum. Construction began under the emperor Vespasian in 72 AD, and was completed in 80 AD under his successor and heir Titus. Further modifications were made during the reign of Domitian (81–96). These three emperors are known as the Flavian dynasty, and the amphitheatre was named in Latin for its association with their family name (Flavius).

The Colosseum could hold, it is estimated, between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators, having an average audience of some 65,000; it was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. The building ceased to be used for entertainment in the early medieval era. It was later reused for such purposes as housing, workshops, quarters for a religious order, a fortress, a quarry, and a Christian shrine.

St. Anne's Church (Polish: Kościół św. Anny) is a church in the historic center of Warsaw, Poland, adjacent to the Castle Square, at Krakowskie Przedmieście 68. It is one of Poland's most notable churches with a Neoclassical facade. The church ranks among Warsaw's oldest buildings. Over time, it has seen many reconstructions, resulting in its present-day appearance, unchanged since 1788. Currently it is the main church parish of the academic community in Warsaw.

This photo was taken in the middle of a sandstorm. The wind was blowing hard (30-40 mph) and it was a challenge to protect the camera from the "stinging" sand. The sunlight is coming from a small cresent shaped crack between the clouds and the mountains directly behind me. The crack is so small that it illuminates just a small portion of landscape. The distances we see in this photograph are measured in miles. The sunlight falling on the landscape is about 12-15 miles from where I am standing and just as wide.

I have been to Death Valley every year since 2004. I have seen some of the most unique conditions in Death Valley (even seen people kayaking near Badwater in 2005). This year during our workshop we got some of that unique conditions at Badwater. The salt flats were full of water about 1/2 inch deep. On our first day the sky went wild and the entire valley was filled with light, textures and colors. Here is a sample of what we saw. The students have some great images from this location under a very unique conditions.

The Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican, or simply St. Peter's Basilica (Latin: Basilica Sancti Petri; Italian: Basilica Papale di San Pietro in Vaticano), is an Italian Renaissance church in Vatican City, the papal enclave within the city of Rome.

Designed principally by Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, St. Peter's is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture and one of the largest churches in the world. While it is neither the mother church of the Catholic Church nor the cathedral of the Diocese of Rome, St. Peter's is regarded as one of the holiest Catholic shrines. It has been described as "holding a unique position in the Christian world" and as "the greatest of all churches of Christendom".

Catholic tradition holds that the Basilica is the burial site of St. Peter, one of Christ's Apostles and also the first Pope; supposedly, St. Peter's tomb is directly below the high altar of the Basilica. For this reason, many Popes have been interred at St. Peter's since the Early Christian period. There has been a church on this site since the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great. Construction of the present basilica, replacing the Old St. Peter's Basilica of the 4th century AD, began on 18 April 1506 and was completed on 18 November 1626.

We got to Maroon Bells early in the morning and were quickly disappointed as it was snowing intermittently. Ever so hopeful, we waited in the snow and rain hoping for some color in the sky, but the cloud cover was to thick for a dramatic sky. Instead I did manage to catch this moody shot of a Fire Storm as sunlight finally made its way to the mountain in front of us.

Upon arrival at Beauty Creek brilliant orange lichen growing on white rocks immediately attracted by attention. I waited for the sunset to the put on the a fireworks show before capturing this image. This photograph manual blend of 3 images (using our iHDR technique...). I also used a Hard 3-Stop ND filter to balance the dynamic range of light.

Pine Glades lake in Everglades National park is truly a beautiful lake. When we caught this fantastic sunset over this lake it made for a stunning photograph. The reflection in the water just enhanced the colors in the sky.

This was the only decent day to photograph on this trip to Florida. As waited for the sun down, the sky put on a spectacular show. I used the leading lines created by the waterline to direct the viewers attention to the lighthouse and then to the brilliant colors in the sky caused by the setting sun. Slow shutter speed was used to create a sense of motion in the waves in the foreground.

On this beautiful evening when we arrived at the Pineglade Lakes, we found this 3.5 feet alligator resting at the edge of the lake. I knelled down no more then 4 feet from him and took this photo. Like any good model he stood perfectly still while the sky overhead put on a show if its own.

On our first day at the Zion National Park, we drove up to the Zion valley to photograph the Watchman. Instead of selecting the typical bridge location on the Virgin river, we selected a location just inside the Zion National Park. As the sun went down, the clouds over the Watchman provided a fantastic show as the Watchman lit up with the afterglow from the sun.

Here is a photo I took on Ruby beach during our vacation to the Olympic National Park. The kid were playing on the beach about 20 yards to my left and every so often I had to remind all 6 of them that if the wave dont get you hypothermia will. By the time we were all done shooting some of them could not feel their fingers...and we had to get the fire going again.

Sharp Bubbles: The sharp bubbles was result of the impression left on the sensor just before the wave hit. This was then superimposed by highlights from the fast moving wave. Resulting image has sharp bubbles and blurry wave from a single shot.

Which Resort do you like to stay at?

I am finally making my rounds to the resorts at Walt Disney World. Most people think the parks are the only thing to see when they come to visit here, but that's not true at all. Almost more detail has been given to the resorts you stay in than to the attractions in any of the parks. For example the Fort Wilderness Lodge here. This section in the back of the lobby area is patterned after the areas found in...

We wander into the salt flats on our Death Valley workshop to find some more off the beaten path location and came across these pools after the storm the day before. After 0.96 inches rain fell in DV the day before eroding away some of the salt and exposing the mud underneath.

Yellowstone National Park, WY

To this this photos I stood in the cold rain and wind at Artist Point for almost 3 hours. Finally the clouds parted and spotlights kept moving towards all over the landscape. One of the photographers visiting the location let me try his Canon 100-400mm Lens which I used to see the details in the falls.

How was this image created?

I took a single exposure with intent of reprocessing it in the#Photoshop . The exposure had some over exposed highlight, but I knew that I would be able to restore their details using our iHDR workflow. The time of the photograph was important because I wanted to showcase mist...and for this to happen the spotlight had to fall on the falls.

Enjoy & Share.
